Confirm elicitation results:
Before we start prioritizing, analyzing and come up with different solutions for the
requirements, it becomes important to confirm if we actually got the information right in the
first place. The purpose of this task is to verify the accuracy (correctness of the data) and
consistency of the information gathered by the elicitation activity. Its verified whether the
stakeholder’s requirements match with the stakeholders needs.
Here, for example, the information gathered from the GSJ store needs to be verified in terms
of accuracy and consistency. Here, our firm will collaborate with the clients and ensure that
the elicitation results were appropriately captured.
The process of confirming the elicitation results includes the ‘unconfirmed elicitation results’
as the input, which is then validated in the process stage, and which in turn results in a
confirmed elicitation result.
Elements:
This task consists of two elements:
1) Compare elicitation results against source information
2) Compare elicitation results against other elicitation results
Compare elicitation results against source information – Here, the information can be verified
and confirmed through the sources that were used to conduct the elicitation such as
documents, shareholder’s knowledge. For e.g. in our business, we can confirm the results by
individually inviting the clients (GSJ Store) to confirm the results or conduct a follow-up
meeting to maintain accuracy in the results.
Compare elicitation results against other elicitation results – Here, the business analyst
compares the different information of all the elicitation results to identify the errors and take
corrective measures.
Techniques
1) Interviews
Clarification of results and validation by conducting an interview with the stakeholders.
Here, an interview can be conducted with the clients of GSJ Store and the Domain SME
to identify the discrepancies in the results and take corrective measures.
2) Reviews
Confirm information in a group setting, whether informal and formal. For e.g. the clients
and other stakeholders can review the result and it can be verified if the stated
stakeholders’ requirements match with the stakeholder’s needs.
3) Workshops
Workshop is similar to review. However, it has agendas, scripts and scenario tests to
review the elicitation results. For e.g. can be provided by the stakeholders during the
workshop and same can be recorded to make necessary changes.
