TASK SHEET

TITLE:
Infant Bath
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE:
1. To promote hygiene
2. To promote comfort and relaxation
3. To thoroughly assess the client
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION:
1. Use hypoallergenic soap.
2. Always do the handwashing.
3. See to it that you checked the vital signs (temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate)
EQUIPMENT
1. Bathtub
2. Big basin
3. Body wash
4. Lavatory
5. Diaper
6. 2 small towels
7. Warm water (98 - 100˚F)
8. Blanket
9. Room (must be right room temperature)
STEPS
1. Assemble equipment.
2. Wash hands.
3. Wash the sink or tub with disinfectant cleanser and rinse thoroughly.
4. Line the sink or tub with a bath towel.
5. Place a towel on the counter next to the sink or tub as you may want to lay the infant down to dry
him.
6. Fill the tub or sink with 1 to 2 inches of arm water (warm to touch of the elbow).
7. Undress the infant, wrap him in a towel or blanket, and bring him to the tub or sink.
8. using a cotton ball moistened with warm water and squeezed out, gently wipe the infant’s eye
form the nose towards the ears.
9. To wash the hair, hold the infant in the football hold, with the baby’s head over the sink or tub. This
will free your other hand to wet the hair, apply a small amount of shampoo and rinse the hair.
10. Dry the infant’s head with towel.
11. Unwrap the infant, gently place him on the towel in the sink or tub. One of your hands should
always be holding the baby, never let not even for a second.
12. Wash the infant’s body with soap and washcloth, being careful to wash the between folds
(creases) of the skin.
13. If the infant is female, always wash the perianal area from front to back.
14. If the infant is male, clean the foreskin by gently retracting it. If the child has been circumcised ,
this is not necessary.
15. Rinse the baby thoroughly with warm water.
16. Lift the infant out of the water and onto the towel you laid out of the counter.
17. Dry the infant well, being careful dry between the folds of the skin.
18. Now you can apply, lotion or cream to the infant, whichever the mother prefers or as instructed
by your supervisor.
19. Diaper and dress the infant.
20. Place the infant in his crib or allow the mother to hold him. Show the mother how to hold the
infant either the upright or the cradle position.
21. Clean the area where the bath is given
22. Wash your hands.
