Tidy Time Series & Forecasting in R: Rob J Hyndman

This document provides an overview and agenda for a workshop on tidy time series analysis and forecasting in R. It introduces the instructor, Rob Hyndman, and the teaching assistants. It outlines some assumptions, including familiarity with R and statistics concepts. The key reference text for the workshop is listed. A poll asks participants about their experience with forecasting and proficiency in R. The required packages are listed. An approximate outline provides an overview of the topics to be covered each day, including time series graphics, transformations, seasonality, forecasting methods like exponential smoothing and ARIMA models. Instructions are provided for asking for help using sticky notes during the workshop.

Assumptions

This is not an introduction to R. I assume you are

broadly comfortable with R code, the RStudio
environment and the tidyverse.
This is not a statistics course. I assume you are
familiar with concepts such as the mean,
standard deviation, quantiles, regression, normal
distribution, likelihood, etc.
This is not a theory course. I am not going to
derive anything. I will teach you time series and
forecasting tools, when to use them, and how to
use them most effectively. 5
