    Artificial intelligence application in manufacturing
Artificial intelligence
The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks normally
requiring human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition,
decision-making, and translation between languages.
What Are Intelligent Agents?
Agents are active, persistent software components that perceive, reason, act, and
communicate.
Software that assists people and acts on their behalf.
Agents can help people and processes.
Agents are used for automation and control.
Artificial Intelligence
    Logical thinking.
Making decisions in case of uncertainty.
    Learning.
    Planing.
    Communication in natural language.
    Understanding images.
All these abilities to achieve a goal.
Advantages of AI in manufacturing
    Faster decision making
    Better forecasting
    Increased efficiency
    Eliminate human error
    Help humans perform better
    Reduce costs/labor force
Challenges for AI in manufacturing
Fact checking & information flow monitoring.
    Causal discovery & digital evidences.
    Deep model & architecture interpret-ability
    AI reproducibility
    Data provenance & usage monitoring
Applications AI in manufacturing
 Quality checks
Factories creating complex products like microchips and circuit boards are making
use of ‘machine vision’, which equips AI with extra ordinary high-resolution
cameras. The technology is able to pick out minute details and defects far more
reliably than the human eye. When integrated with a cloud-based data processing
framework, defects are instantly flagged and a response is automatically
coordinated.
Example
1. Statistical process control (SPC)
It monitors and controls quality by tracking production metrics. It helps quality
managers identify and solve problems before products leave the facility.
2. Six Sigma
It uses five key principles to ensure products meet customers needs and have zero
defects.
                                Quality checks robot
 Maintenance
Smart factories like those operated by LG are making use of Azure Machine
Learning to detect and predict defects in their machinery before issues arise. This
allows for predictive maintenance that can cut down on unexpected delays, which
can cost tens of thousands of pounds.
Example
Top companies of bikes and cars like BMW check their product firstly on machines
then they allow it to supply to customers .
                                 Car testing Azrue
 Faster, more reliable design
AI is being used by companies to make that new product which is more efficient
than previous one.Which is also manufactured with the same or less budget but
gives much better outputs.
Example
LCD’s is replaced to LED’.
                                       LED
 Reduced environmental impact
Companies uses AI to lessen the environment pollution and focuses on manufacturng
of same product with least amount of waste.
Example
Siemens outfits its gas turbines with hundreds of sensors that feed into an
AI-operated data processing system, which adjusts fuel valves in order to keep
emissions as low as possible.
                               Siemens gas turbine
Combining Gathered useful data and analyze
In this case, companies gathered use full data and analyze its result by the help of AI.
Thus they concludes some factors that are unusefull and time consuming.By
neglecting those factors they are able to increase the efficiency of manufacturing.
Example
Hitachi has been paying close attention to the productivity and output of its factories
using AI. Previously unused data is continuously gathered and processed by their AI,
unlocking the factors that were too time-consuming to analyse in the past.
                              Data analyzing robots
    Cutting waste
AI enables manufacturing to cut the part according to need, this action reduced the
amount of waste and saved millions of dollars
Example
Steel industry uses ‘Fero Labs’ technology to cut down on ‘mill scaling’, which
results in 3 percent of steel being lost. The AI was able to reduce this by 15 percent.
                               Fero Lab technology
 Integration
Cloud-based machine learning like ‘Azure’s Cognitive Services’ is allowing
manufacturers to streamline communication between their many branches. Data
collected on one production line can be interpreted and shared with other branches
to automate material supply, maintenance and other previously manual
undertakings.
                            Azure’s Cognitive Services
    Improved customer service
AI in customer service, creating ‘real-time view of the customer experience’. This
allows them to solve the issues and identify key customers and pain points.
Example
Nokia is leading the charge in implementing a AI in improving customer service.
Real-time view of the customer service
 Post-production support
Some well-developed companies is using its AI ‘24/7 Connected Services’ to
monitor how its products are used and to provide this information to its clients. This
allows them not only to predict defects, but to show clients how their products are
being used in practice.
Example
Finnish elevator and escalator manufacturer KONE is using this facility.
                          KONE 24/7 Connected Service
Conclusion
Unlike the big fear of human jobs being lost due to AI, the manufacturing will be
driven towards higher productivity and increased efficiency with the help of AI. The
workforce can focus more on innovation and new operations, and contribute to the
growth and bright future of the Manufacturing Industry.
