Grade 11 Math: Functions & Graphs

The lesson plan is about one-to-one correspondence functions in grade 11 mathematics. [1] It aims to teach students how to represent real-life situations using one-to-one functions. [2] Students will be divided into groups to perform tasks showing relationships and determine if functions are one-to-one. [3] They will then learn that one-to-one functions have inverses which are also functions.

Lesson Plan in Grade 11 Mathematics

General Mathematics

Content: Functions and Their Graphs

Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of inverse

functions, exponential functions and logarithmic functions.

Performance Standards: The learner is able to apply the concepts of inverse functions,
exponential functions, and logarithmic functions to formulate and solve
real – life problems with precision and accuracy.

Learning Competency: The learner can represents real – life situations using one – to – one
functions. ( M11GM–Id–1 )

I. Objective: At the end of the lesson, will be able to determine one – to – one
correspondence function.

II. Subject Matter: One – to – one Correspondence Functions

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
B. Review
Find the indicated function values.
1. f (x) = x + 1 , f ( –4 )
2. h (x) = 5x2 + 4 , h ( 3 )
x2 −x−2
3. g(x) = 2 , g(4)
x −5 x−3
C. Motivation
A function is a relation in which every ordered pair (x, y) has one and only
one value of y corresponding to each value of x.
Example: Let f (x) = { ( – 4, 5 ), ( 2, 4 ), ( 7, 3 ), ( 10, 8 )}
D. Activity
The students will be divided into three groups. Let the students perform
the given task and reporting will be done after discussing with group members.
Group 1 – Let them find partner within their group.
Group 2 – Ask to show a relationship of a father and children.
Group 3 – Show a relationship of a children and a mother.

E. Analysis
To process the activity, the students will be asked with the following
questions.
1. How did you find the activities? Did you enjoy?
2. How did you describe the relationship shown by its group?
3. What will happen if we will interchange x and y?
4. How did you come up with your answer?
F. Abstraction
Based on our activity, a one – to – one functions have inverses which are
also functions.
Inverses function f – 1 is the set of ordered pairs ( x, y ) obtained from f by
interchanging the first and second elements of each ordered pair.

G. Application/ Evaluation
Determine whether the function described by the following equations is
one – to – one.
1. f(x) = – 5x + 10
2. g (x) = x2 +5x
3. h(x) = / x – 4 /
4. g(x) = x3 + 5
5. f(x) = √ x
6. h(x) = { ( apple, biscuit), ( hamburger, juice), ( hotdog, bread )}
7. f (x) = { ( Anna , Jose), ( Joan, Peter), ( Liza, Michael)}
8. g(x) = { ( father, John), ( father, Alex ), ( father, Abner)}
9. f (x) = { ( Anna, towel), ( Maita, brush), ( Aivy, Slippers), ( Airish, bag)}
10. h(x)= { ( plate, spoon), ( plate, fork), ( glass, cup)}

IV. Assignment:
Find the inverse function of the following.
a. f(x) = 4 – x2, x≥ 0
x5 + 4
b. f (x) =
3
c. f (x) = 4x – 5
d. g(x) = √ 4−x
e. h(x) = 3x + 2
