DESCRIPTION OF THE TOPIC:
The Indian economy is growing at a fast rate creating considerable opportunities in various
fields. This growth can be maintained only with the amply skilled managers, who would give the
company the desired impetus for the development of each sector. This is the reason for such
rapid growth in the number of management schools in India over the last few decades. A
management program provides holistic development of managerial skills through exposure to
case studies, teaching industry training, consultancy, research and development with business
leaders. The top B-school in the country, which are able to provide good quality education and
placement opportunity, do not have enough seats for all the meritorious students. Imparting
good quality management education requires institutions to have a well-developed
infrastructure fulfilling the student's need.
IIMs were started by the planning commission of India to solve the problems of lack of suitable
managerial skill amongst the people. IIM Calcutta is the first to be established in 1961, since
then the ever-increasing demand for the course has led to the establishment of the number of
new IIMs across the country. IIM Jammu being the newest of them started in 2016, mentored
by IIM Lucknow. IIM Nagpur was the fourteen IIM started in 2015 under the mentorship of IIM
Ahmedabad.
Today IIM are amongst the tier 1 B- Schools in India and have gained importance on an
international level because of their academic facility and quality of alumni's they have working
globally. Designing an IIM in today's context should be done with a clear understanding of
emerging trends in the current business education market place, and the evolving planning and
design possibilities, keeping in mind the involvement of developing the technology into it. The
learning environment should be thoughtfully crafted for an ideal environment for
contemplation, collaboration, teamwork student engagement and meaningful conversation
while supporting connections with regional business and global academic communities.

NEED FOR THIS TOPIC:
Today IIMs have become institutes of national importance with an ever-increasing number of
applicants. As a result of which every state is getting its institute and the existing are looking
forward to their expansions. The new IIMs shall be judged for the quality of faculty that they
have onboard and the faculties that they offer to students both in terms of academics as well
lifestyle rather than the constructive benchmark of packages that companies offer during their
on-campus placements globally top colleges and universities have taken even centuries to get
where they are and it is unfair to expect the new IIMs to build sustainable value in less than a
decade.
Maharashtra as a state has the highest economy in the country with the increasing service
sector. Mumbai being the financial capital has concentrated may company headquarters and
spread outwards. With many public and private B-schools already running successfully in
Mumbai- Pune area. Eastern Maharashtra lies unnoticed.
Nagpur is the centre of educational hub in India and IIM-N will certainly leverage the local
advantage. Also, between Indore and Hyderabad and IIM, there is no other management
institute. This vacuum can be filled in by setting of IIM in Nagpur. IIM-N can do extremely well
because entry to the public sector is relatively easy.

SITE:
IIM Nagpur is one of the six new generation Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in the
country established as per the decision of the Union Cabinet on 24th June 2015. It was
inaugurated on 31st August 2015. Its permanent campus is located at Dahegaon, Mauza in
Mihan. Till its 132acre permanent campus comes up IIM Nagpur is located within the campus
of VNIT (Visvesvarya National Institute of Technology) Nagpur. IIM Nagpur is being mentored by
the IIM Ahmedabad (the second oldest IIM in the country). In effect, students in IIM Nagpur
follow the PGP curriculum of IIM Ahmedabad and will be taught by the faculty members of
IIMA. They partake of the academic rigour for which IIMA is known for. In all other respects, IIM
Ahmedabad.

AIM:
This research aims to collect and analyze all the data required to prepare an efficient design
brief to design a sustainable IIM-Nagpur campus fulfilling all its need and requirements.
OBJECTIVES:
To understand and managements and working of management institutes.
To find for any design innovations needed by studying the analysis of case studies.
To study campus planning in all aspects required for an efficient layout in design.
To study educational spaces and the learning environment needed for a management course.

SITE: The project would be set up in around 132 acres of land in at Dahegaon, Mauza in Mihan. It is well
connected to all means of transport.
