Number System 1 PDF

Unit - 1 discusses number systems. It describes: 1) Real numbers which are on the number scale, and imaginary numbers which are not and involve square roots of negative numbers. 2) Rational numbers which can be written as p/q, and irrational numbers with non-terminating, non-recurring decimal forms such as square roots. 3) Integers, fractions, even/odd numbers, and other number types within the rational number system.

integers, while 9.75, 5 2, and √2 are not.)

Even Number (Numbers Odd Number (Numbers

which are divisible by 2) which are not divisible by 2)
• Question : Zero is even integer or odd integer?
• Answer:- odd number = Even number + odd number

Question:- 325 + 326 + 327 + 328 is divisible by
a) 11 b) 16 c) 25 d) 30
Solution:- 325 + 326 + 327 + 328 this can be written as
325 (30 + 31 + 32 + 33 )
325 (1 + 3 + 9 + 27)
325 (40)
324 (3 x 40) = 324 (120)
120 is divisible by 30 therefore answer will be 30.

3] take last digit of the number multiply it with

5, add this number with rest of the digits, if the

number obtained is divisible by 7 then the
number is divisible by 7.

Last three digits are divisible by 8, or last three

8 9872, 58000
digits are 000,

9 Sum of digit is divisible by 9 5832, 7101

10 If the last digit of the number is 0 440, 230, 570

If the difference between sum of odd place digit

11 & sum of even place digit is either 0 or 11 or
multiple of 11.
Number divisible by 7 Rule 2
Check 203 is divisible by 7 or not.
First take last digit of 203 i.e. 3 and double it i.e. 3 x 2 = 6
remaining number is 20, subtract 6 from 20 we get 14 which is divisible by 7
therefore 203 is divisible by 7.

Check 2023 is divisible by 7 or not.

First take last digit of 2023 i.e. 3 and double it ie. 3 x 2 = 6
remaining number is 202, subtract 6 from 202 we get 196. Now it is difficult to identify
whether 196 is divisible by 7 or not, therefore repeat the same process again.
Take last digit of 196 i.e. 6 and double it i.e. 6 x 2 = 12
remaining number is 19, subtract 12 from 19 we get 7. Therefore we can say that 2023 is
divisible by 7.

Number divisible by 7 Rule 3

Check 3724 is divisible by 7 or not.
First take last digit of 3724 i.e. 4 and multiply it with 5 i.e. 4 x 5 = 20
Remaining number is 372, add 20 in 372 we get 392, repeat above steps.
Take last digit of 392 i.e. 2 and multiply it with 5 i.e. 2 x 5 = 10
remaining number is 39, add 10 in 39 we get 49 which is divisible by 7, therefore we can
say that 3724 is divisible by 7.
Number divisible by 11
Question:- If 8467x5 is divisible by 11 then x will be?
a) 1 b) 3 c) 5 d) 2
Solution:- Even place digits

8 4 6 7 x 5

Odd place digits

Add digits at odd place and even place i.e. (8+6+x) & (4+7+5)
Equate the difference of these two sum to zero, (8+6+x) - (4+7+5) = 0
Now solve it for x.
We get (14+x) – (16) = 0
14 – 16 + x = 0
x=2
