Step by step process admin process from begining until APC
The steps below help to illustrate the typical Assessment of Professional Competence
(APC) process. Exact requirements will change depending on which route to membership
you follow.
STEP 1: Choose your route to membership using our wizard
STEP 2: Depending on your route to membership, complete relevant standard resume
template and send it to your regional team: Middle East: APCME@rics.org
STEP 3: Complete your APC Passport on MyAPC
STEP 4: Choose your APC pathway

STEP 6: Pay your enrolment fees
Once you have completed your APC Passport on MyAPC and it is approved by a member of
RICS staff, payment of your enrolment fees will be required to proceed to the next step.

STEP 7: Complete your written submission
MyAPC will guide you through the requirements and deadlines for submitting
details of your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and, depending on
your route to membership, your Critical Analysis.
STEP 8: Apply for final assessment
When you become eligible for final assessment you will receive a notification within
MyAPC inviting you to attend the final assessment session.
STEP 9: Final assessment interview
Your Final Assessment will be a panel interview with two or three RICS-qualified
members. You must have been enrolled for at least 6 months before you are
eligible to sit the final assessment.
STEP 7: Congratulations!
Successful completion of the APC process outlined above will lead to professional
membership of RICS and entitles you to call yourself a chartered surveyor.

Your final assessment submissions demonstrate to your assessment panel the knowledge
and understanding you have gained and the competencies you have achieved through
experience and/or structured training.
You are required to submit all documents except you final assessment application form on the
MyAPC portal.
The submissions should contain all required information
1. Candidate details (please ensure these are correct and up to date)
2. Summary of experience
3. Case study
4. CPD record
5. Quarterly (if applicable)
6. On-line Ethics certificate
7. On-line training certificates (if applicable)
Please note: If you have been previously referred please see section
12 for submission requirements
Before you send your submissions in please check and ensure:
• The submission meets the required word count as any submission
where the word count has been exceed will be returned.
• Your contact details and name are correct on both your APC portal
and your www.rics.org account.
• All subscription payments have been made
• The submission time is 5pm (UAE time) any late submissions will be
rejected
Section 7 - Plagiarism
RICS has launched Turnitin, a system to help check candidates’ submissions are their own
work and stand up to independent scrutiny.
The system will compare a candidate’s submission against submissions from other
candidates. RICS will be randomly selecting 10% of candidates to submit their documentation
into Turnitin; this will include the summary of experience and critical analysis or case study.
If you are selected to submit your documentation you will receive a separate email to notify
you of this. Failure to submit this documentation upon request may result in your assessment
being withdrawn. RICS reserve the right at any time to request that candidates submit their
documentation into Turnitin.
Section 9 - Final assessment venues
RICS will endeavour to allocate you to your first choice however on occasions this may not be
possible and therefore we ask you to keep all relevant dates free until you have received
confirmation of your assessment date and time.
Please note, not all pathways have assessments at all of the venue locations available.
Once your assessment date has been set, it will not be possible to change unless there are
extenuating circumstances. Sometimes due to circumstances beyond RICS' control, interview
times may change. If this happens you will be contacted and your new time will be confirmed
in writing.
The venues for final assessment are:
Oman – Muscat
Qatar – Doha
Bahrain – Manama
UAE – Dubai/Abu Dhabi
Structured training
Some candidates undertaking their APC will be required to complete
structured training as part of their application for RICS membership. The
APC structured training requires you to complete and record a minimum
period of relevant practical experience to demonstrate that you have
the skills and ability to practise in your chosen surveying specialism.
The APC is a competency-based assessment that requires you to
achieve the minimum level of competence to perform specific tasks and
functions.
The competencies you are assessed against depend on your chosen APC
pathway. Some competencies are mandatory for all pathways, whilst others
are technical and relate specifically to your chosen pathway.
