Practice Activity 1: Getting Started with Microsoft Excel

Objective: In this activity, you will:

- Create a workbook and type in text in


- Save the workbook
Note: Type the Green text in the workbook you create.

Step 1: Open Microsoft Excel. Click Start > All Programs > Microsoft Applications > Microsoft Excel 2003®.

Step 2: Select the cells – A1, B1 and type the following text:

Items Amount

Use the button on the toolbar to bold the text in these cells.

Step 3: Type the following text under the Items column (A2, A3, A4, and A5):

Biscuits

Pencil

Juice

Chocolates

Wafers

You have entered the list of items purchased.

Step 4: Type the following numbers under the Amount column (B2, B3, B4, and B5):

You have entered the price for each item purchased.

Step 5: Save your spreadsheet. Use the button on the toolbar or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + S and
name the file Shopping List. Tip: Pay attention to where the document is being saved so you can easily retrieve it
later.)

Step 6: Close the workbook by clicking icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 7: Open the workbook from the location where you saved it. Insert a new column for Serial Numbers.

Select Cell –A1. Click the Insert menu and then click the Columns option. A new column is created. Type the
following text:

S.No

Use the button on the toolbar to bold the text in this cell.

Step 8: Type the following numbers under the S.No column (A2, A3, A4, and A5):

Step 8: Save the workbook again and close it .
