Learning Design Planning: Topic of A Learning Unit: Cells and Microscope

1. The learning unit topic is Cells and Microscope. The 3 learning outcomes are: to make a slide of onion cells and look at them under a microscope; discuss what cells are, the differences between plant and animal cells; and appreciate the wonders of cells through a microscope. 2. The activity will involve using interactive media like puzzles to teach about cells. Learners will discover the lessons and be able to show their understanding at the end. Resources include video, PowerPoints, computers, assessment sheets and a compound microscope. 3. Support for learners includes using a KWL chart and providing additional assistance if needed. Learners' work will be evaluated using anagrams, a cell summary,

Learning Design Planning

(Based on the RASE framework)

Topic of a Learning Unit:

CELLS AND MICROSCOPE

Learning Outcomes:
Specify learning outcomes (maximum 3)
1. To make up a slide of onion and look at the cells using a microscope,

2. Discuss how what cells are, what animal and plant cells look like, how cells work,
the differences between plant cells and animal cells;

3. And appreciate the wonders of cells through a microscope

Plot the learning outcomes in the graph bellow:

These notes are developed by Dr Daniel Churchill

Activity:
Describe an activity for learners to achieve the learning outcome(s).
Describe what will learners deliver at the end of their activity.
Describe a scenario you will present to introduce the activity.
The interactive activities from the printed media to the digital ones will be utilized
like answering puzzles. At the end of the activity, the learners will discover the
necessary lessons.

Resources:
List resources learners will use in the activity.
i. Video clips and PowerPoint presentations for integration of Values to initiate
knowledge application across and within the curriculum teaching areas.
ii. Computer and Activity Interactives for learner-centered strategies to develop
literacy skills.
iii. Assessment Sheets for critical thinking skills and the development of the
Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)
iv. KWL CHART
1. To address the differentiation in content, product, process, learning
environment, needs, strengths, interests, and experiences.
2. To implement developmentally sequenced teaching and learning process to
meet the curriculum goals and varied teaching contents.
v. Compound Microscope

Support:
How learner learning be supported, develop any template to scaffold their work on the
activity, list any additional resources to be used in the case if learners need further
assistance, etc.
KWL CHART
1. To address the differentiation in content, product, process, learning
environment, needs, strengths, interests, and experiences.
2. To implement developmentally sequenced teaching and learning process to
meet the curriculum goals and varied teaching contents

Evaluation:
How will you evaluate learners’ artifacts developed in the activity? Develop a list of
criteria for satisfactory completion of the activity (you can try using
http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php to develop a rubric for this purpose).
1. ANAGRAMS
2. CELL SUMMARY
3. MULTIPLE CHOICE QUIZ
