SCOPE OF WORK
Project Name: Storage tanks & racks modeling
1. Project objective
Developing a technical/economical model for storage tanks and racks in 4 months.
2. Deliverables
Tank Rack
Stage 0: List of specifications
• Stored product/ storage modes and • Transported product/ storage modes and
capacity capacity
• Building codes • Building codes
• Site conditions Variable parameters (height, width, length
• Framework materials/ types Number of Levels, number of pipes per level
• Variable parameters (Quantity, • Technical model validity
density
, temperature)
• Technical model validity
Stage 1: Technical model
• Establish a spreadsheet for studying • Establish a spreadsheet for rack sizing:
variants for tanks:
* Design considerations:
-> Dead Load * Define the applied Loads
-> Design external/Internal Pressure * Recognizing functional materials
-> Hydrostatic test * Define the type of anchoring with
-> Minimum Roof Live Load the floor
-> Seismic * Design the rack as a modular
-> Environment loads: Snow, wind frame
-> Stored liquid load * Design of the rack foundation
-> External load/Pressure
-> Special considerations (Foundation/
Corrosion allowances/service
conditions/weld Hardness/Thickness)
-> Bottom plates
-> Annulare bottom plates
* Shell Design:
-> Allowable stress
-> Calculation the thickness by the
suitable method (1-foot method
/Variable Design-Point /Elastic analysis)
* Shell opening:
-> Spacing of welds around
connections
-> Thermal stress relief
-> Reinforcement and welding
-> Shell nozzles and Flanges
-> Shell Manholes
-> Flush-Type Cleanout Fittings/Shell
connections
* Shell Attachments and tank
appurtenance
-> shell attachments
-> Bottom connections
-> Cover plates
-> Roof Manholes
-> Roof venting
* Top and intermediate stiffening Rings
-> Types
-> Restrictions
-> supports
-> Intermediate wind Girders
*Roof
-> Allowable stress
-> Supported cone Roof
-> Self-supporting cone Roof
-> Self-supporting Dome and
umbrella Roof
*Wind load on tank (OVERTURNING
STABILITY)
-> Wind Pressure
-> Unanchored Tanks
->Sliding Friction
* TANK ANCHORAGE (if it’s required)
Outputs: Outputs:
*Quantity of concrete, rebar and steel, * Metal frame, wire mesh
tank steel plate quantities
Stage 2: Economical model
• Estimate of TIC based on parametrical model/bottom-up method
* Bottom-up model:
-> Prepare a work break down structure of the project i.e. divide the entire project
into smaller and tractable tasks.
-> Identify the dependencies between the tasks and allocate resources to each task
carefully.
-> Aggregate an individual estimate of each task in order to determine the
resources needed by the entire project.
* Parametrical model:
-> Prepare a work break down structure of the project i.e. divide the entire project
into smaller and tractable tasks.
-> Determine the cost on the base of research and historical data
-> Determine estimate the whole project’s cost
Stage 3: Software coding
Develop an IT model in VBA, which will allow us to choose the suitable tanks
for the fluids used, as well as estimate the cost of those tanks based on
parameters predefined by the user.
Stage 4: Final tests and model approved
