4. FIRST AID MEASURES

SYMPTOMS AND EFFECTS

Irritation of the respiratory tract, abdominal pain, difficulty in breathing, salivation. Skin contact may
cause severe irritation and chemical burns.

INHALATION
Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped perform artificial respiration.
Do not give anything to an unconscious person. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get
medical attention as soon as possible.

SKIN
Do not delay. Immediately flush the contaminated skin with soap and water. If the product
penetrated to cloth immediately remove the clothing and flush the skin with water, and at the same
time rub skin with PEG/meths swab. Get medical attention immediately.

EYES
Do not delay. Immediately wash the eyes with large amount of water, occasionally lifting the lower
and upper lids. Get medical attention immediately. Contact lenses should not be worn when working
with this chemical.

INGESTION
Do not delay. Get medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting. Give nothing by mouth.

ADVICE TO PHYSICIANS
In cases of ingestion, consider gastric lavage. Gastric lavage must only be undertaken after cuffed
endothraceal intubation in view of the risk of aspiration.

2
5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES

EXTINGUISH MEDIA
In case of fire use alcohol resistant foam, powder, water spray and carbon monoxide.

UNSUITABLE EXTINGUISH MEDIA

Water in a jet.

FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES

Fire fighters should wear self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Keep
unnecessary people away, isolate hazard area and deny entry. Dike area to prevent run off and
contamination of water sources. Persons who have been exposed to contaminated smoke should be
immediately examined by a physician and checked for symptoms of poisoning.

UNUSUAL FIRE HAZARDS

Upon heating toxic fumes are formed. Dichloromethane may react with oxidants causing fire and
explosion hazard.

HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS

Possible the formation of Hydrogen Chloride, Phosgene, Chlorine and toxic Carbon Monoxide when
combustion takes place in lack of oxygen.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus must be worn.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapour. Take off immediately all
contaminated clothing. Ventilate contaminated area thoroughly. Evacuate the area where
concentrated fumes are present. Shut off leaks, if possible without personal risk. Clean up personnel
must wear proper protective equipment (see section 5 and 8)
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS
Avoid contamination of ground and surface waters. Do not flush to sewer. All spills or leaks of this
material must be handled and disposed. Prevent from spreading or entering into drains, ditches or
rivers by using sand, earth or appropriate barriers.

METHODS FOR CLEANING UP

Collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb spills in sand or other inert absorbent and
remove to a safe place. Take care of personal protection. See section 13 for disposal.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING
Avoid contact with eye, skin or clothing. Avoid breathing vapors. Do not taste or swallow. Do not
eat, drink or smoke in work area. Any clothing or shoes which become contaminated should be
removed immediately and thoroughly laundered before wearing again.

3
STORAGE
Store the material in labeled sealed containers in a cool, dry and well ventilated area, separated from
strong oxidants, metals, food and feedstuff.
