Choosing a Brand Safety Standard Compliant Lock
Hotels and hotel project teams must choose a locking technology from the Brand Safety Standard Compliant Locks List. W
them to choose a lock from the list that:
• Meets with their operational needs in terms of:
o Ease of management
o Interoperability with other hotel systems
o Maintenance schedules
o Environmental conditions (extreme heat, cold, humidity and dust etc…)
• Has enough keying levels to meet with their internal structures
• Has the correct finish to match the décor of the hotel
• Has an acceptable warranty period
• Has an acceptable predicted service life
Important Considerations
The Brand Safety Standard Compliant Locks list details manufacturer technologies that are often used in a range of locking
of variants depending upon the mechanical locking systems the technology is incorporated into.
To that end when choosing a lock from the list hotels and hotel project teams should take into account a number of issues
• Must be a variant designed specifically for the hotel industry (this is usually enough to cover all the following points)
• Must have an anti-carding technology incorporated
• For emergency exiting, there should be a simultaneous retraction of the deadbolt and latch with a single turning action o
• Must have a means by which a guest can operate:
o A secondary locking bolt and or…
o A DND function
o The above two functions must be programmed to prevent entry by any key other than the GM’s emergency override key
and other guests associated to that room.
• If a mechanical key override capability is fitted then it must that have the following attributes:
o Not be easily accessible and or…
o Incorporates a special profile key that cannot be easily copied
oAll uses of a mechnical keys must be recorded in the locks inventory
• During the lock fitting process any drilling carried must not compromise the fire rating of the guest room door
