I. TITLE PAGE:
*A. The title should centered and provide a clear indication of the focus of the essay.
B. The title page must include student name, candidate number, subject area, date of submission,
and word count.
II. ABSTRACT:
*A Clearly state the research question.
B. State the scope of the investigation.
C. State the conclusion of the EE.
IV. INTRODUCTION:
A. In general the context and background of the topic should be discussed.
*B. The introduction should focus on the research question and explanation of why it is significant
or worthy of investigation.
C.The research question must be clearly stated and you must include your thesis
statement here.
V. BODY:
A. This is the main part of your extended essay.
B. You must present a reasoned argument clearly and in an organized manner with
research to support your claims.
C. Sub-headings within the main body of the essay will help the reader to understand the
argument.
VI. CONCLUSION:
A. Summarize the leading facts in the argument
B. Be clear, consistent with the thesis statement, and relevant to the evidence you have
presented.
C. Include unresolved questions that you have found through this research process.
VII. ILLUSTRATIONS:
*A. Graphs, diagrams, tables and maps are effective only if they are clearly labeled and can be
interpreted with ease.
B. These are not required for all subject areas. Consult about this with your EE Supervising
teacher.
IX. APPENDICES
A. Each appendix must be clearly and referenced in the body of the paper.
B. Appendices are not required for all subject areas.
