8-Keyed Flute Fingerings Guide

This document provides basic fingerings for playing notes on an 8-keyed baroque flute. It explains that fingerings for the single-keyed baroque flute can also be used on the 8-keyed flute, with the additional keys allowing for expanded tone colors, passagework, and improved intonation. Over five pages, it lists the fingerings for notes from low B up through high C4, indicating which finger holes to cover or uncover to produce each note.

Fingerings with keys

on the 8-keyed Flute (with C-foot-joint) (by Karl Kaiser)

While the keys on the 8-keyed flute can be used to increase the range of
available tone-colours and dynamic possibilites, the speed of passage work
or to improve the intonation of certain notes, all fingerings of the one-keyed
flute should work on the 8-keyed flute as well.
One can therefore consider and play the 8-keyed flute as a 'normal' baroque
flute with extra keys, and use the basic fingerings of the one-keyed flute
as the basic fingerings for the 8-keyed flute. (see 'Basic fingerings for the
one-keyed flute'.) Use the fork fingerings of the baroque flute on classical
and romantic flutes to achieve special tone-colours.

For clarity, only the basic keyed fingerings for the 8-keyed flute are
listed here.
