Serial Killer Project Guidelines (slide-by-slide breakdown)

Title Slide: this does NOT count toward your 5 slide minimum requirement!
1) Serial Killer: your serial killer’s name
2) By: Your Name

Slide(s) 1: Introduction
1) Full name of the serial killer.
2) Dates of birth & death (if applicable).
3) Nicknames (if any) given to them by the media or by themselves.
4) A general introductory statement that addresses the following:
a. Why is the individual infamous?
b. Location (town, city, etc) in which his/her crimes were committed.
c. Dates during which the serial killer was active.

Introductory Statement Example: “Jeffery Dahmer is known for murdering, sexually abusing, & consuming the
bodies of his victims in the Wisconsin area from 1978-1991”

Slide(s) 2: Personal History


1) Childhood history
a. Where were they born? Where did they grow up?
b. What was the nature of the household in which they grew up? (loving, violent, religious, etc)
c. Education level?
d. History of experiencing any physical or sexual abuse? If so, by whom?
e. Any “peculiar” behaviors (e.g. animal torture, bed-wetting, etc)

2) Adult history
a. Residency as an adult?
b. Work / military history? (if any)
c. Prior crimes before killing spree?
d. Personal interests?
e. Any miscellaneous details of interest?
Slide(s) 3: Psychological Profile
1) Description of their social skills
a. Outgoing or antisocial?
b. Did the individual suffer from low self-esteem? If so, why?

2) Did this person suffer from substance-abuse?


3) Describe any delusions, fantasies, or beliefs that this person subscribed to (ex. Charles Manson’s
“helter-skelter”).

Slide(s) 4: Killings
1) Dates or general time frame the killer was suspected to be active in the murders.
2) How many people did they kill (suspected &/or confirmed)?
3) Describe the killer’s methods for the capture AND killing of their victims.
4) Demographic of victims (did this individual target people from a specific group or gender?)
5) Describe the killer’s motivation (what drove them to kill? Why did they target a specific group?)
6) Did the killer taunt investigators or attempt to interfere with the investigation in any way?

Slide(s) 5: Capture & Sentencing


1) When & where was the killer caught?
2) How was the killer caught?
3) Details of their criminal trial:
a. Pleas
b. Verdict
c. Sentence (number of life terms, death sentence, etc).
4) How they died (if dead) or current age.

*For each slide, you do not have to mention every single point listed in the outline if it does not apply to your
serial killer.
For example, when organizing Slide #2, if there was no history of physical or sexual abuse in your killer’s
background DO NOT MENTION IT!

Works Cited Slide: this does NOT count toward your 5 slide minimum requirement!
1) You must use AT LEAST THREE WEB SOURCES when doing your research.
2) YOU MAY NOT USE WIKIPEDIA!!!! Use EasyBib to prepare your citations in MLA format.

You should AT LEAST complete the following each day:


DAY 1: general research on your serial killer. You can print out any documents you need for reference in
making your presentation.
DAY 2: Complete your introductory slide(s).
DAY 3: Personal History slide(s) & Killings slide(s)
DAY 4: Psychological Profile slide(s)
DAY 5: Capture & Sentencing slide(s)
