The teacher post a simple addition of numbers on the board and the students will answer.

c. Lesson Proper

The teacher presents the Arithmetic Sequences is defined as a sequence in which there is a
common difference between consecutive terms.
Which of the following sequences are arithmetic? Identify the common difference.

1. 3,  1, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, . . .
2 . 15.5, 14, 12.5, 11, 9.5, 8, . . .
3. 84, 80, 74, 66, 56, 44, . . .

To solve the general form of an arithmetic sequences, you can use the formula

Use the nth term of an arithmetic sequence An = a1 + (n-1) d to answer the following questions.

1. Find the common difference of the arithmetic sequence with a4= 10 and a11 = 45.
2. How many terms are in an arithmetic sequence whose first term is -3, common difference is 2 , and last
term is 23?
