Police Officer Visit

Video: The video is appropriate for this lesson because it allows students to see what
polices officers do through a child’s point of view. This allows students to relate to
the video but also be able to recognize, identify, and understand the role of a police
officer.

Read Aloud: The read aloud is appropriate because it is colorful and engaging but
reinforces how police help within the community.

Movement: Students will have the opportunity for movement when the police
officers come in and visit the classroom.

Police Officer Visit: This is appropriate for students and the objective because
students get to meet and see real police officers which reiterates the ability for
students to recognize, identify, and understand the role of a police officer.

ENGAGE (5 mins)
The students will be asked to come to the carpet and sit in the semi square. The

officer. Before reviewing, the teacher will ask the following:

2. How do you know what a police officer looks like?
3. How does a police officer help us?

Safety Considerations: Students will be asked to keep all hands, feet, and other objects to themselves.
Students will be asked to follow directions and pay close attention to what the police
officers ask them to do since they will bring equipment.
Follow Up: EXTEND (0 mins)
A follow up will occur once the teacher has given the summative assessment at the
end of the week.
Once the teacher has assessed each student, then the teacher can properly work with
students who did not achieve mastery, as well as, extend with the students who did
achieve mastery.
