Sherlock Holmes is a widely known character and unarguebly sir arthur conan doyles best work.

over the years there have been many adaptations of the stories of sherlock holmes but in my
opinion a study in pink is the closest modern television has come to perfecting the literature.

The episode differs from the novel in various ways , one of the most prominent change being the
difference in time. the novel was set in the 19th century while the episode in the 21st. the
modern take had an advantage in portraying the story better as they had visuals to support the
plot while the novel did not have this and thus required repeated recaps. the change in setting
brought along many differences with them. London in the 19th century was described as filthy
and dirty. It was set post industrialization and thus london was covered in smoke and pollution.
The city in the episode was shown as clean and organized, the city had law and order.

Both in the novel and in the episode, sherlock lives at the same adrress and the address bears a
peculiar significance to sherlock. the tv show interprets the story for a modern audience, thus
the many differences between the tv show and the novel. we see that the use of technology
bears significance in the tv show and it is important for the tv show to have technology as in the
world we live in today, technology plays a very important role in our lives and it is almost as it is
a need. There were some small changes made to the characters to be made more suitable for
the 21st century for example in the novel we are told that sherlock enjoys smoking a pipe and
wearing his hat that he is famous for while in the tv show we are shown that sherlock uses
nicotine patches instead of smoking ciggerates, it is also revelaed that sherlock is not very fond
of wearing his famous hat. in the tv show watsons blog played a very important role in making
sherlock a promineent figure thus the technology. another example of this would be the mystery
murderer. in the novel we are told that the murderer was a hansom cabbie but because of the
modern adaptation, this was changed to the murderer being a taxi driver.

Both the novel and the episode depict sherlock as an extremely intelligent individual with
superior deduction skills. Sherlocks personality differs in the tv show from the novel. in the novel
we are told that sherlock is middle aged calm man. in the tv show he is shown as a rather young
and arrogant man, his attitude to everyone around him is quite different in the tv show, he
particularly pushes people away and it is watson that keeps him in check.

In the novel we are told that watson had a injury in his shoulder but in the tv show we are told
that his leg was limping. The relationship of sherlock and watson was a very important aspect of
both the novel and the book and there were almsot similar.

A very important aspect is the reason for the murders. in the novel we are explained that the
reason for the murders was revenge but in the modern adaptation we are shown that the reason
for the murders was money. the murderer was a puppet of a giant organization. this tells us how
priorities have changed over time. this tells us what is most important to us now and what was
most important to us then. The reason for the murders tell us that family and love was the
driving force for humanity in 19th century but in the world we live in today, everything revolves
around wealth.
