JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: No 3 Sound Technician

REPORTING TO: No 1 Sound Technician

JOB PURPOSE: To work as No 3 Sound Technician for the production, to maintain an


effective and safe sound rig and to deal with all sound and
communication needs for the production and to participate in the
running of performances as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To work in a co-operative and collaborative manner with Nos. 1 and 2 Sound Technicians, and
all other departments in executing the sound needs of the production both in rehearsal, access
and performance
• To learn and operate the sound mixing for the production in performance.
• To cost and prepare equipment and consumables as required.
• To operate the sound for the productions in performance and rehearsal.
• To ensure that all sound, communications, audio description and audio enhancement related
work is carried out within the time constraints set and to advise on time to be scheduled and
any deviation from that schedule.
• To manage time efficiently and where practically possible, within the Working Time regulations.
• To take responsibility for all audio equipment and rigging as required. And to undertake in the
training and safe operation of such equipment.
• To ensure that the artistic integrity of the sound design is continuously delivered throughout the
Production's life.
• To be aware of current Health and Safety Legislation and other Legal requirements affecting
the areas of responsibility and to ensure that all work is carried out in keeping with RSC policy
and procedures.
• To keep all sound running and cue sheets up to date and backed up, and generate and
maintain all paper work necessary for the smooth running of the project and potential transfers
where appropriate.
• The procurement, maintenance and preparation of adequate stocks of consumables including
Lavalier microphones.
• To attend meetings when appropriate, respond to show reports and generally assume
responsibility, along with other members of the department, for the running of the sound
department.
• To facilitate or assist with live publicity appearances inside or outside the venue

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive, and the employee will be required to perform duties
outside of this as operationally required and at the discretion of their Line Manager.

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:

• An understanding and practical knowledge of the principles and safe working practices of
theatre rigging and sound systems
• The applicant must have the ability to work within a small team who will inevitably spend
much working time together as a close knit group
• Co-operation and adaptability
• Good communication with other departments and resident crew
• Professional theatre experience with qualifications relevant to this post
• Large Scale Musical mixing experience

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:

• Previous West End experience
