Introduction to Business Modeling
UNIT-I Meaning & Process of Modeling, Certainty & uncertainty in models, Importance 7 hrs.
of understanding data before modeling, Application of modeling to break-even
point.
Goal Programming
UNIT-II Goal Programming, Problems on machine scheduling, Formulating & solving 7 hrs.
product-mix problem, Formulating & solving labor-planning problem.
Integer Linear Programming
UNIT-III 7 hrs.
Concept, Job-sequencing model, branch & bound method, problems based on
branch & bound method.
Decision Trees
UNIT-IV Concept of decision making & decision trees, Applications of decision trees in 7 hrs.
Making manufacturing decisions like expansion of present plant, build new plant
or sub-contract.
Replacement Models
Introduction, failure of items, Application of replacement models to items that
UNIT-V deteriorates, Items with increasing running cost, Items that fail completely, 6 hrs.
Group replacement policy, recruitment and promotional problems, equipment
renewal problems.
Sequencing Problems
UNIT-VI 6 hrs.
Introduction, Problems involving n jobs – 2 machines, n jobs – 3 machines & n
jobs – m machines, Comparison of priority sequencing rules.
