National Institute of Technology Rourkela: Answer All Questions. Figures in The Right Hand Margin Indicate Marks

This document is the mid-semester supplementary examination for an image processing and computer vision course. It contains 5 questions assessing students' knowledge of key topics: 1) Log transformations, infrared imaging, bit-plane analysis, and transform-domain and spatial domain sampling. 2) Distance functions, Euclidean distance, city-block distance, and their application to an example image. 3) Contrast stretching, thresholding, and their image processing applications. Students are asked to apply these techniques to an example image. 4) Histogram equalization, its repetitive application, and mean, median and alpha-trimmed mean filters and their image processing applications. 5) Frequency domain filtering techniques

(b)
Discuss the characteristic properties of mean, median and alpha-trimmed
mean filters. What are their applications? Apply 3× 3 and 5× 5 mean and
median filters to the sub-image of Fig.1 at the pixel having the value 145.
Comment on the results. 5
Apply 3× 3 Laplacian mask at the same pixel and determine its output.

(c) Describe frequency domain filtering. What are special steps involved 2
here? Explain.
