2. Cable Reel Structure

Spreader cable reel is made up of four

frequency conversion motors, four

hysteresis couplings, one gear box and

one slip ring box.(collector)

z Hysteresis Coupling

Hysteresis coupling which is invented by ZPMC is a driving unit with good

performance. The principle of work of hystersis coupling is: set a

inductive disk made of strong magnetic material opposite to a magnetic

disk made of several permanent magnets, and retain air gap between them.

Certain torque is transferred by magnetic force, slip difference is

occurred when torque exceeds magnetic force. Inductive disk is jointed

with cable reel through reducer. When reel is winding cable, the motor

will make inductive disk rotate at high speed, the inductive disk runs

through magnetic force, and the cable is collected on reel through reducer.

When spreader stops hoisting, the brake is acted to deter motor from
rotating in reverse direction, and to prevent cable from loosing. Refer

to《Hysteresis coupling instruction》

Main part of cable reel. Connect motor and slip ring box.

z Cable reel

ZPMC cable reel is assembled by rectangle tube. The reel has high rigidity

and good outline.

z Slip ring box

Slip ring box is designed specially for spreader cable reel, it is

a standard product.
3. Principle of Working:

When the spreader is hoisting and the cable reel retrieving, the

spreader cable reel is powered by two motors and a magnetic hysteresis

coupler is used to transmit the power to the gear, then to the cable store

reel. The magnetic hysteresis coupler is consisted of an inductor plate

the a primary plate . If the cable meets any obstruction when retrieving

and the motors are running, the primary plate will be stopped by a drag

torque. The inductor plate will slip from the primary plate to prevent

the cable from snapping and to the motors from overloading.

When the spreader is lowering and the cable reel is releasing the cable,

the cable will be pulled out from the reel and the reel is driven the primary

plate through the gear. The inductor plate is following the motors

reversing, which is slower than the primary plate. The speed difference

between the inductor plate and the primary plate will cause magnetic

hysteresis force to prevent the cable from gravity falling.


While hoisting and lowering, the A.C. motors are shifted to match with

frequent movement of the reel.

In non-operation, the magnetic hysteresis force between the primary

plate and inductor plate will prevent the cable from gravity or wind-forced

falling.
4. Use of Cable Reel

1. Preparation

z Before use cable reel, check oil level of gear box, insure it is in normal

condition.

z Add lubricant to all oil cups.

z Make sure if rotating direction of two motors is uniform.

z Make sure cooling fan is in good condition.

z Check the cable and plug.

z Make sure the free running of cable reel.

2. Daily maintenance

z After use of 2000 hours or one year, the gear box oil should be refreshed,

before adding new oil, the old oil should be given out.

z The oil should be industrial gear oil 220.

z All oil cups should be added new lubricant after at least 1000 hours.

z Often check the oil level and ensure the lubrication.

z Often check the slip ring box, ensure the brush to contact the collector

ring.

z Often clear away dust and oil stain on cable.

z During startup and normal running, if there has any abnormal phenomenon,
stop running and check up.
5. Usual failure and remove of it

COUPLING HAS BEEN ADJUSTED TO MEET THE DESIGNED

REQUIREMENTS BEFORE LEAVING FACTORY. DON’T MAKE ANY

CAHNGE EXCEPTING UNDER SPECIAL CONDITIONS.

IF ADJUSTMENT BECOME NECESSARY, THE OPERATION

MUST COMPLY WITH THE RULES OF SECTION TWO IN THIS

MANUAL!

THERE SHOULDN’T BE ANY PERFORMANCE AGAINST

SECTION THREE AT ANY TIME!


1. Working Principle of Hysteresis Coupling

The principle of work of hysteresis coupling is: set a inductive disk

made of strong magnetic material opposite a magnetic disk made of several

permanent magnets, and retain air gap between them. There is a multipole

alternant magnetic field produced by the magnetic disk. When the speed

difference occurs between the two disks, magnetic disk will alternately

magnetize opposite inductive disk, produce a anti-slip difference torque,

and finally carry out “magnetism join”, thereby achieve the goal of

allowing slip difference as well as transferring a basically constant torque.

An overrunning clutch could be set on ZPMC hysteresis coupling

according to requirement, when the output end runs toward negative

direction, the hysteresis coupling can play the role of dynamic braking.

When the input end stops running, the hysteresis coupling can always

retain constant brake moment in one direction of rotation.

2. Torque Measurement and Adjustment of Hysteresis Coupling


2.1 Structure of Hysteresis Coupling:

As show of above drawing, to make the hysteresis coupling output

normal torque, certain gap must be assured between magnetic disk and

inductive disk. The size of gap can be adjusted by regulating nut. To make

the gap stationary after adjustment, the regulating nut has been installed

two M6X12 holding screws, and tied Φ0.8mm stainless steel wire. The

shaft neck at the bottom of screw hole has been countersunk.


2.2 Torque Measurement of Hysteresis Coupling:

2.2.1 Required Tools:

1. Torque Spanner: Range: 0~40N.M. Quantity: one

2. Torque Measuring Head: Madetomeasure Quantity: one

2.2.2 Measuring Steps:

According to figure above, torque measurement of hysteresis coupling is as

follows:

Step one: fix the cable reel with rope;

1. Step two: disassemble the motor installed at the afterbody of

hysteresis coupling (view a);

2. Step three: insert torque measuring head into motor shaft hole of

hysteresis coupling (view b);

3. Step four: insert torque spanner into square hole of torque

measuring head (view c);

4. Step five: torque measured by turning the torque spanner is the

torque of hysteresis coupling (view d).


2.3 Torque Adjustment of Hysteresis Coupling:

The maximum output torque of hysteresis coupling has direct

relation with the size of gap between magnetic disk and inductive disk.

The smaller the gap is, the bigger the torque will be. The torque of

hysteresis coupling can be adjusted by adjusting gap between two disk.

2.3.1 Required Tools:

1. Clearance gauge: 6 inches Quantity: one

2. Spanner: Madetomeasure Quantity: one

2.3.2 Disassembly of hysteresis coupling:

According to figure above, the dismounting step of hysteresis coupling is

as follows:

1. Step one: disassemble filling pipe (view a, b)

2. Step two: disassemble end cover (view c)


3. Step three: disassemble magnetic disk components (view d)

4. Step four: disassemble holding screw (view e)

5. Step five: disassemble heat emission shell (view f)

2.3.3 Torque Adjustment of Hysteresis Coupling:

°, the torque increasing 0.5Nm.

with plug gauge.

Attention: The Min. gap no allowable

less 08mm.

After adjusting the torque, DO FIX THE REGULATING NUT

ACCORDING TO FIGURE ABOVE: countersink a deep pit on shaft neck

of main shaft and at the bottom of two holding screw holes on regulating

nut; spin the holdings screw (sharp the head) and tighten it; tie Φ0.8mm

steel wire, the steel wire must be pass through the hole of screw head.
3. Precautions

1) After disassembling the hysteresis coupling, please keep clean in it.

Strictly prohibit iron dust, wire tack and any other rubbish from

entering into magnetic gap and one way bearing.

2) To make sure that the hysteresis coupling have enough magnetic

intensity, prohibit the two opposed magnetic disks from being

opened completely when the disassembling is proceeding.

3) When adjusting the gap, you should always remember: don’t make

the two magnetic disks attract each other firmly, the hysteresis

coupling works normally only when the gap is no less than 0.8mm.

4) After adjusting the gap, necessary loose proof measures should be

adopted: view section 2.3.3.

5) After adjusting the gap and renewing the assembly, the hysteresis

coupling should be poured grease lubricant.
