Candidate Social Media Registration Guide

This document from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) informs regional election directors and other officers that candidates and political parties must register the website names and URLs of their official blogs and social media pages with the COMELEC's Education and Information Department. This is required by COMELEC Resolution No. 10488 for the May 2019 elections. Candidates and parties are instructed to submit this information via letter to specific COMELEC email addresses. A sample format for the registration letter is attached.

SUBJECT : Registration of Website Name and Web Address of the Official


Blog and/or Social Media Accounts of Candidates and Parties

DATE : 06 February 2019

This refers to Section 9 Item c of COMELEC Resolution No. 10488 entitled, “Rules and
Regulations Implementing Republic Act No. 9006, otherwise known as the ‘Fair Elections
Act’, in connection with the May 13, 2019 National and Local Elections”, wherein it is
stated that
c. Internet, mobile and social media propaganda
Each registered political party and candidate shall register with Education
and Information Department of the COMELEC, the website name and web
address of the official Blog and/or social media page of such political party
or candidate.
Any other blog or social media page which, when taken as a whole, has for
its primary purpose the endorsement of a candidate or their official
campaign representatives, shall be considered additional official blogs or
social media pages of the said candidate.

In line with this, kindly inform candidates and parties in your areas of jurisdiction to
submit the website name and web address (URL) of their official Blog and/or social
media page through a letter. Said letter shall be addressed to the undersigned and shall
be sent via e-mail to any of the following e-mail addresses: talktocomelec@gmail.com,
info@comelec.gov.ph or eid@comelec.gov.ph.
Attached hereto is a sample format.
