Our clientele cut across the entire nation of Ghana and
beyond to the West African sub region. Providing port
facilities and services in a manner that will facilitate quick
and efficient movement of customers’ cargo through the
port is our main concern.

The Port of Tema thrives on the multiplicity of businesses

that grow the Ghanaian economy and that of regional
neighbours. Every success story makes the services we
provide worthwhile. Thus our vision is to provide efficient
facilities and services to make Tema the “maritime gateway
of the sub –region”.

 A WEST AFRICAN INFRASTRUCTURE

GATEWAY
The port of Tema has infrastructure
for multipurpose vessels and a
dedicated container terminal.
The port consists of 12 berths
on two quays with an additional
jetty. There is also a fishing port
attached to the port.
The draught ranges from 11.5
metres at the Container berths
and between 8.0 metres to 10.0
metres at the multi-user berths.
The maximum draft at the Fishing
harbour is 6.1 metres.

BUNKERING AND SHIP

CHANDLERY
Bunkering services are available either in
port, at anchorage or offshore. This service
is provided by the Aegean Bunkering
Services Ltd. There are also competitive
ship chandlery services providing vessel’s
stores requirements.

 SHIP REPAIR
Drydock and slipway facilities are available around the Tema Port. It is 277.4 metres long and
4.5 metres wide with an average draught of 8.2 metres depending on the tide. The facility
has a 100,000 dwt capacity with 20 and 60 ton mobile cranes.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND WASTE RECEPTION

In conformity with annex I of the MARPOL 73/78 Convention, waste reception services are
provided by the Tillbury Environmental Group (TEG), a private company. TEG collects oil waste
in the form of sludge, fuel residue, oily bilge water and ballast water. The company also collects
domestic and operational waste in the forms of stowage waste, food waste, and general garbage
generated via vessel accommodation.

The local market covers all the ten regions of
Ghana .

TRANSIT MARKET
This comprises neighbouring landlocked
countries of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. Tema
port’s urge over its competitors in the transit
business lies in its advantages of:
• lower port tariffs
• no customs duties
• quick clearance and short transit times
• daily departure for loaded trucks
• safety of cargo in the port
• electronic tracking along the Ghanaian
corridor

TRANSIT TRUCK PARK

The port has invested in a dedicated area made
available for the parking of trucks with cargo
destined for transit destinations. This facility
provides port, customs and tracking services,
serving as a one stop point for processing
documentation for the clearance of transit cargo.

 MPS CONTAINER TERMINAL
The Tema Port provides container handling
facilities via a dedicated container terminal
managed and operated by a private company,
Meridian Port Services (MPS). The terminal which
consists of berths 1 and 2 has a quay length of
575 metres with the following facilities:

and a six lane gate complex.

GOLDEN JUBILEE TERMINAL

The Golden Jubilee Terminal (GJT) is an inland
clearance depot (ICD) located on the western
end of the Port of Tema. The facility spans an
area of 97,412 square meters and comprises a 4.0 metres. The outer fishing harbour comprises
container freight station (CFS), a state warehouse, a 122 metre entrance with 486 metres of quay
car park and an open area for striping/un-stuffing length, with draughts ranging between 5.0 to 7.0
and storage of containers, banking services and metres.

FISHING HARBOUR CANOE
BASIN
The canoe basin is shielded by approximately
5.2 hectares of protected waters. It comprises a
wooden jetty for motorboats, a fish preparation
shed, a-120- room gear storage facility.
Ancillary services provided around the Fishing
Harbour include a fish market, two fuel dispensing
stations to cater for the fishers’ outboard motors,
various private cold store facilities, a private fish
processing company and a Bank.
TEMA FISHING HARBOUR
The Tema Fishing Harbour is located on the
eastern end of the main harbour. It comprises an
inner and outer harbours and a canoe basin. The
inner fishing harbour begins with a 63 m wide
entrance and comprises a total quay length of
467 metres which consists of a finger jetty (60
m), lay by jetty (155 m) and a lay by wharf (100
metres) with draughts ranging between 3.5 and

TRAINING
Training is a key aspect of the ports programmes. To continually ensure an efficient, versatile and a
customer oriented workforce, Tema Port consistently offers practical training and education for staff
at its training school.

HEALTH
The Tema Port Clinic was started in 1985 and serves port personnel and their dependents, stakeholders
and the general public. Facilities among others include Admission wards Pharmacy, Laboratory and a
counselling unit. On average, the clinic serves between 60 to 80 patients, daily.

Vehicles not registered to operate in the port: these are vehicles which have not been registered by their owners to operate in the port. Such Vehicles
do not have their details in the database of the vehicle entry toll issue system (VETIS). These vehicles are owned by a consignee and call once a while
to collect/Deliver owner's cargo. Vehicles entry tolls will be sold to these trucks only after an accredited manager at the terminal has endorsed the
vehicle appointment notice; and After ownership of the vehicle and cargo have been verified and certified to be the same

 The future is bright and possibilities are endless. Plans for a second container terminal, expansion
in ICT, prospect of further rehabilitation and expansion of rail facilities, dedicated bulk terminals, a
passenger terminal, a modern hospital to serve the port and its community are but a few of the plans
to be implemented. Though challenges abound in the maritime sector hard work, planning and
dedication continues to move the port in its vision to be the maritime gateway to the sub region.

mouillage du port est d`une profondeur d’eau entre 9,0 m
et 18,0 m avec une bonne base.
Le port couvre une superficie de 3.9 millions de mètres
carrés et se situe dans une ville industrielle. Dans les environs
du port, on trouve également les Dépôts de Déchargement
Intérieurs (DDI), les entrepôts, les sociétés de transport et
les centres de service.

Les installations de cale sèche et de chantier naval sont disponibles au Port de Tema. La cale sèche est
de 277.4 mètres de long et 4.5 mètres de large avec une ébauche moyenne de 8.2 mètres selon la marée.
L’installation a une capacité de 100,000 poids mort avec 20 et 60 tonnes de grues mobiles

manœuvre des navires, les prestations y compris
le charbonnage, l’approvisionnement des navires
et la réparation des navires.

LA MANUTENTION A TERRE ET LES

INSTALLATIONS DE STOCKAGE
La Manutention à terre consiste en la réception, le
stockage et la livraison de la cargaison à partir du

totale de 4,621, 860 mètres carrés. Actuellement il
y a des zones de stockage ouvertes et fermées de

La formation est un aspect clé des programmes du port. Pour assurer continuellement une main
d’œuvre efficace, douée et adaptée aux besoins du client, le port de Tema offre avec diligence une
formation et une éducation pratique au personnel dans son Centre de Formation.

LA SANTE
La Clinique du Port de Tema a été ouverte en 1985 et dessert le personnel du port, des personnes
à charge du personnel, des parties prenantes et le grand public. L’établissement a des installations y
compris une pharmacie, des salles d’admission, un laboratoire, et une unité d’assistance. En moyenne
la clinique du port s’occupe de 60 à 80 patients par jour.

L’avenir est plein de promesses et les possibilités sont infinies. Les projets d’un deuxième terminal à
conteneurs, l’expansion en informatique, les perspectives d’une nouvelle réhabilitation et expansion
des installations du chemin de fer, des terminaux du vrac dédiés, un hôpital moderne pour desservir
le port et sa communauté ne sont que quelques-unes des aspirations pour les jours à venir. Bien qu’il
y ait des défis dans le secteur maritime, le travail, la planification et le dévouement des employés
continueront d’inciter le port dans sa vision d’être la porte maritime de la sous-région.

propres cargaisons de leur propriétaires de temps en temps. Le péage d’entrée des véhicules serait vendu au chauffeur du véhicule après la
signature du rendez-vous du Véhicule par un Directeur autorisé au Terminal ; et après qu’on a vérifié et certifié que la possession du véhicule et
de la cargaison entant que même chose.
