LESSON 1

SALVATION

1. Objective
For each student to understand the importance of our salvation and the atoning
work of Christ.

2. Goals
By the end of this session the student should be able to:
q Explain with biblical foundation, the condition of humankind when they were
created.
q Explain why mankind needs atonement.
q Explain how people should respond to Christ’s sacrifice.

3. Biblical Foundation
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the
world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who
believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, be-
cause he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16–18)

4. Theme Exposition

A. Condition of humanity when

created.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and
female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
The characteristics of God’s image in humankind.
q Mankind is a living soul – Gen. 2:7. Mankind has emotions, a mind and a free
will.
q Mankind has a spiritual nature – to have fellowship and communion with
God.

who seeks after God. They have all turned aside…” (Romans 3:10-18).
q They are separated from the glory of God.
“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

C. The atoning work of Jesus Christ

q What does atonement mean? In the simplest terms it refers to at-one-ment,
thus being at one with God. Through Christ’s suffering and death, He satis-
fied God’s judgment on sin and reconciled us back to the Father. Since Jesus
covered our sin, the Father’s love now is released to us and we enjoy this
blessed fellowship with Him.
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities;
the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:3-5
q Redeemed by His blood – “You were redeemed… with the precious blood of Christ.”
(1 Peter 1:19)
q Reconciled or purchased back to God through Christ’s atoning work. Col.
1:20.

D. How to respond to the sacrifice of Christ

“Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit…’
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking
of bread, and in prayers.” Acts 2:38-42

q Accept and receive Christ’s sacrifice – “As many as received Him…” (John
1:12)
q Believe Christ’s sacrifice – “He who hears My word and believes.” (John 5:24)
Confess Christ’s Lordship over your life – “If you confess with your mouth the Lord
Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be
saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Assignment

Speak with someone who does not know Christ (friend, relative, etc.). Pray first, and
when you speak with the person, explain each one of the steps you have learned in this
lesson. Write down your experience.

tionship with God.

2. Goals
By the end or this session you should be able to:
q Describe your condition as a consequence of sin.
q Explain the difference between repentance and remorse.
q Explain the redemption concept and steps to repentance.

3. Biblical Foundation
“Therefore say to the house of Israel. ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Repent, turn away from
your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.” (Ezekiel 14:6)

4. Theme Exposition
A. The consequences of sin for mankind are:

q Vanity Romans 1:21 – 25
q Worldliness Romans 3:16 – 18
q Nakedness Genesis 3:10
q Hide yourself from God’s voice Genesis 3:10

C. The Redeemer’s plan for repentance

q The purpose of God for mankind is summarized in the word Redemption.
There are three Greek words that are translated into the word redemption.
1. Agorazo “To buy in the market”; this word gives the idea of a slave
market.
2. Exagorazo “To buy and to take out of the market”, to be taken out of
the market, no longer for sale.
3. Letroo “Loose”, to free someone through payment of price.
q Redemption covers three area:
1 Spiritual redemption John 3:16, Galatians 3:13
2. Physical redemption Isaiah 53:4 – 5
3. Financial redemption Psalm 23:1, Deuteronomy
. 28:29
D. Specific steps for repentance
q To feel deep pain for offending God – Jeremiah 33:3
q Confess your sins – Psalm 32:5, 1 John 1:9
q Renounce your sin and cut off curses - Gal. 3:13; Col. 2:14 – 15

Conclusion
When someone truly repents, fulfilling each one of these steps, then the person is ready
to enjoy the benefits that God has already prepared.

Ministry
Each student needs to go through a time of restoration with God according to the steps
and scriptures you have just learned.

Assignment

synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I
say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when
you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father
who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions
as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore,
do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
In this manner, therefore pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your
kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but

or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we are killed all
day long: we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.’ Yet in all these things we are more
than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,
nor angels or principalities nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height
nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:35-39)

4. Fill your mind with the things of the Spirit.

C. The Family
What do you think with family members which bring obstacles into your life?
q Win them in prayer
q Believe God’s promises
q Be prudent with the things you do, so you will have a good testimony before
them.
q Persevere and be constant in prayer and fasting before the Lord.
