Money plays an integral role in our lives, impacting nearly every situation we face. From
birth to employment to the legacy we leave, money is a factor; sometimes silent and
sometimes stated, but always present. Given that, we expect ourselves to be literate in
how to manage money. Unfortunately, statistics show us that’s not the case.

Many of us aren’t financially literate because we have never been taught how to
manage our money. So today, we have teachers and advisors who will share to us their
expertise and experience for us to make educated decisions to better manage our
financials.

Set a goal
Establish your plan

Financial literacy comes down to making educated decisions which is why a plan is so
essential to avoid a great misfortune. Becoming financially literate is empowering. Think
of it as removing the training wheels from a bike. It may feel scary at first, but once
mastered, the balance is freeing. That freedom provides peace of mind and
confidence that whichever road you’re traveling on will take you to your desired
destination.

Topic 1: Money Mindset and Needs vs Wants

Differentiating between the two will help you reduce your spending and increase
your savings, making you one step closer to financial independence
A need is something you have to have; it is required as a mean of subsistence.
A want on the other hand, is something you would like to have. It is a nice to
have but it is not needed.
“Why Can’t We Ever Get Everything We Need and Want?”
- Invest, save money, and reach your financial goals to balance needs and
wants to live well, but frugally, and find joy and contentment in life

Topic 2: Personal Finance

Personal finance is the process of planning and managing personal financial
activities such as income generation, spending, saving, investing, and protection.
The process of managing one’s personal finances can be summarized in
a budget or financial plan.
Key to successful managing personal finances:
- Identify financial goals – short term and long term
- Make a financial plan
- Make a budget and stick to it
- Pay off debt
- Ask for financial advice

Topic 3: Introduction to Investments

Investing relates to the purchase of assets that are expected to generate a rate of
return, with the hope that over time the individual will receive back more money
than they originally invested. Investing carries risk, and not all assets actually end
up producing a positive rate of return. This is where we see the relationship
between risk and return. Common forms of investing include:
- Stocks
- Bonds (fixed-income securities)
- Mutual funds (investments in stocks, bonds, or other securities)
- Real estate (land, improvements and rights)
- Private companies
- Commodities
- Art
Topic 4: Financial Ethics
