Stage 3: Learning Plan

LESSON 1: INTRODUCTION TO PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

ESSENTIAL QUESTION (EQ): How can personal development help adolescents in achieving
self-actualization?

Day 1
1. Hook: “Self-Made Man”

a. The teacher will post the picture of “Self-Made Man” by Bobbie Carlyle
b. Processing Questions:
1. What can you see in the picture?
2. What do you think the picture symbolizes?
3. How is the image related to Personal Development?
2. Presentation of objectives and EQ of the day
3. Lesson Development:
a. Activity (Obj.1): Block listing
- Based on the “Self-Made Man”, and in your own understanding, what is Personal
Development?
- Every student will think of their own definition of Personal Development.
- One student will be assigned to list down the definitions his/her students will give.
- Initially, all of the students will be standing up.
- One student will be chosen to give their definition.
- Those students who have the same definition will sit down.
- This will be repeated until everyone is seated.
- All the answers given will be merged to form a single definition/statement.
b. Discussion on the difference between personality development and personal
development
c. Discussion on the psychological basis of Personal Development (Obj.2)

- Students will write their commitment for their personal development.
- They will list down the things they want to learn and change about themselves.
- There should be a brief explanation at the back of the page.
- The agreement will be signed by the students.
- They will write this on the first page of their notebook
4. GENERAL PROCESSING
a. What does it mean to be a self-made man?
b. Do you know a person whom you consider a self-made man? What made you say
so?
c. What comes to your mind when you hear the word psychology? Why?
d. How about when you hear the word Philosophy?
e. How is Psychology and Philosophy linked to Personal Development?

5. CLOSURE: Personal Development is a life-long process. Every moment counts.


6. EVALUATION: Quick recitation (review on the topics discussed)
7. ASSIGNMENT: Read about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Day 2:
1. Review: Recitation on what was discussed on the previous meeting
2. Hook: “The Hidden Power of Smiling” (Video Clip)
- What have you learned from the clip
- How can a simple smile help in your personal development?
3. Lesson Development:
a. Post the question “What motivates you?”
b. Students will be instructed to answer the question but should keep their answers to
themselves.
c. 5 students will be called to explain Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Or isip ng
isang activity
d. My Hierarchy of Needs (Obj.4)
- Students will assess their own Hierarchy of Needs whether they are met or not.
- Include the problems they encountered in each stages and how they can be
resolved

My Hierarchy of Needs

- The class will be divided into 5 groups


- Each student will share their evaluation of needs to their group.
- One student from each group will share to the class what transpired in their group
session
4. GENERAL PROCESSING
a. How would you relate Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in your personal life?
b. Where do you find yourself in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?
c. What needs are being met?
d. What needs are not yet being met?
e. What do you have to do to fulfill your needs so that you can move closer toward self-
actualization?
5. CLOSURE: “If you don’t have vision, you only let other people use you to reach their self-
actualization”
