The dog days of summer don’t have to be unbear-
able. Practicing healthy hydration and understand-
ing the signs of heat stress and how to deal with
it can help reduce the dangers of overheating in
your active and hardworking K-9s.
Keep in mind that dehydration can occur rapidly.
Dogs that exercise 30 to 60 minutes at 70 to
80 degrees Fahrenheit can experience mild to
moderate dehydration, depending on the activity
and the intensity. Among the effects of dehydra-
tion is an impaired ability to maintain a normal
body temperature.

his suffering. It was not an easy decision and we were assisted by

K9 Bane was killed while attempting an apprehension K9 Eico was struck and killed by a vehicle
following a vehicle pursuit of a stolen vehicle. A SWAT team
located the barricaded subject hiding in the attic of a nearby
home. K9 Bane was was killed during the apprehension.
