Reflection 2
Can I be a Math’s teacher?
Teaching young minds mathematics is a mission that cannot be taken lightly. It is full of
challenges, frustrations, and duties. However, it is a mission full of excitement, wonder, and
joy. I strongly believe that every child is capable of learning. By providing the right motivation
and direction from their instructors. I want to teach my students to be independent. I want
them to be responsible. I want to make them love mathematics. It is my duty to see every one
of my students motivated. They deserve my time and full attention with regard to their
education. My classroom has a safe gaining knowledge environment. Classroom organization
is also a key concept to consider when teaching mathematics. Unorganized classroom or set up
distract the student. I believe that children need to learn actively especially in math; as Paul
Halmos said “the only way to teach mathematics is to do mathematics”. I believe in teaching
content that is meaningful. Children learn effectively when they are interested in. Also, when
they have their own choices. Implement group work it is one of my strategies. Group work can
be an effective method to motivate students. Also, promotes a setting where collaboration and
cooperation are valued and produce better results. I agree that math teachers should include
play. Play is essential to children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
Play allows children to create and explore a world they can master. Through play, a
child's creativity, physical and cognitive abilities are refined and strengthened. Play will help
children become self-efficient problem solvers. Because during play children create and solve
their own problems. When a child is asked to solve an academic or real-life problem, they will
be able to use the skills that they practice during play to find a solution. Using play as a tool to
teach mathematics to children will help develop every part of each child. Play enhance
language and cultural development. For example, instead of teaching numbers by writing them
in the whiteboard and ask the student to say the number in an official way. I can convert the
lesson from a boring lesson to an enjoyable activity. Such as "Jump on the right number" is a
game that helps children recognize the number name and shape. So, the teacher will say the
number for example "Three" and the child should jump on the right number which is (3).
Finally, teaching mathematics is all about making the lesson active, enjoy and fun. I want the
children to love coming to school each day because of mathematics lesson. I want them to wake
up in the morning and say, “Today I am so excited because Ms. Reem will teach us math!”
