Assignment 3
Calculate appropriate relay settings for Earth fault high (50G), Overcurrent
Instantaneous (50), IDMT (51)
3. Below figure shows the electric arc behaviour of Cassie arc model and Mayr arc
model for a breaker opening command at t=0.02s. Explain the behaviour of two
models. What is the reason of transient recovery voltage? What is the frequency
of transient recovery voltage?
4. Open “Assignment_3_Overvoltage_issue.slx”. The network is equipped with an
overvoltage protection relay. The relay operates for ±10% variation of the nominal
value. If you simulate the network, you will find that “Three-
Phase Breaker” opens and voltage at Bus B become zero
following the conditions set in the overvoltage protection
relay. You can check the rms voltage inside the relay block
model by clicking the below figure or right click on the model,
select “mask” and click “look under the mask”.
Design any two suitable methods (once at a time) that maintains this voltage
rise/drop within the ±10% of the nominal value (value already set) so that the
breaker does not opens and voltage at Bus B sustains. You can select any
compensation device(s) in order to regulate network voltage. You are not allowed
to change the relay settings, neither the parameters of the any devices in the
existing network. You NEED to submit the Simulink file for cross checking your
model.
6. In a turnkey project, what can be the main reasons of project delay? For a project
delay, who is responsible for paying any penalties apply? Who owns the right to
cancel the project and who will receive any reimbursement if applies?
7. Report
Late reports will not be accepted, unless special approval has been granted
through Special Consideration applied according to VU Regulations and
Procedure.
