Greats of The Green Bay Packers
There have been many great Packers players that have either redefined
how their respective position was played, or served as a blueprint for
future players.
The great thing about having such a storied past, is that nearly every
position has its best player. Today I will present some of my favorite
players, but I will limit myself to one player per position.
There is no particular order.
Ray Nitschke
Ray Nitschke had an
interesting start in his career.
Born and raised in Chicago, he
had hoped to get drafted by
the Chicago Bears. This would
not be the case as the Packers
would pick him up and
become one of the toughest
defensive players in the NFL.
He would go on to be the only
player in both the 50th and 75th

Reggie White
Reggie White was a force to
be reckoned with when he
was in the NFL. Though he
started out in the, now
defunct, United States
Football League, he
transitioned gracefully when
he signed with the
Philedelphia Eagles then
signed with the Green Bay
Packers after 7 years. He
officially retired with 198

Bart Starr
Bart Starr was the original
Tom Brady: picked up by a
team late in the draft, was
expected to be a bust, and
wound up being one of the
best quarterbacks of his time.
Starr would win Super Bowl
MVP twice, for the first two

Paul Hornung
Paul Hornung is another
Packer’s draft pick that payed
dividends immensely. His
legacy involves being the first
player EVER to win both the
Heisman Trophy and the NFL

Jim Taylor
Jim Taylor was one of the
hardest fullbacks ever. Though
never the fastest man on the
field, he was definitely one of
the toughest. He wouldn’t
dance around defenders, but
run through them instead. His
running style was so violent, a
proposed rule change was
declined because defenders
say it would make Taylor

Willie Wood
If you thought Bart Starr
started out rough, then Willie
Wood was as bad as they get.
After being the first African-
American quarterback at USC,
Wood would go undrafted and
ask coach Vince Lombardi for
a tryout. He would get his
request, but would switch to
starting safety and become a
headache to quarterbacks
with his plethora of

Donald Driver
Donald Driver had an
exceptionally tough
upbringing. After his family
home was repossessed, he
lived out of the back of a
moving van most of his life.
After moving in with his
grandmother, he got his life
together and became an
exceptional and consistent
athlete, being hailed as the
best Wide Receiver in Green

Charles Woodson
Charles Woodson was one hell
of a defensive back, on top of
playing all three DB positions
in his career (Strong and Weak
Safety and Cornerback) he
also had big numbers to go
with those spots. Although he
was originally drafted by the
Oakland Raiders, he really
shined in his 7 years in the
green and gold, winning NFL
Defensive Player of The Year
