Fourier series

Periodic function:

A function f(x) is said to be periodic if and only if f(x+p)=f(x) is true for


some value of p and every value of x. Here p is period of the function f(x).

Continuity of a function:

A function f(x) is said to be continuous at x=a is f(a +)=f(a -)=f(a),

f(a +) is the right hand limit of f(x).

f(a -) is the left hand limit of f(x).

Dirichlet’s conditions:

Any function f(x) of period 2 defined in the interval (c, c+2 ) with length

2 can be expressed as a fourier series

1. f(x) is periodic with period 2 and bounded in (c, c+2 )
2. f(x) is piecewiser continuous with finite number of discontinuities in (c, c+2
