Analyzing Production Possibility Frontiers

This document outlines an economics assignment on production possibility frontiers. It includes instructions to: 1) Plot and analyze a PPF table showing the production of computers and wheat. 2) Draw and label a PPF diagram to show the effects of changes like increased birth rates or a flood. 3) Plot and analyze a second PPF table showing the production of bats and rackets in a country. 4) Calculate opportunity costs and determine efficient allocation levels based on the bat/racket PPF.

a. Does the PPF shows increasing, decreasing or constant returns to scale?

b. What is maximum computer production if no wheat is produced? What is the maximum

wheat production if no computer is produced?

c. Draw a production possibility frontier (between computer and wheat) and show the
effect of each of these in the diagram:

a) An increase in birth rates

b) A devastating flood that destroys wheat production.
c) Software engineers goes on strike in the computer industry.

Assignment 01
Topic: Production Possibility Frontier (PPF)
ECO 101, Section: 12 and 14
Course Instructor: NZN

a. In Exhibit 2, plot and connect these points to create Athletic Country's production
possibilities frontier.

b. If Athletic Country currently produces 100 bats and 400 rackets, what is the
opportunity cost of an additional 100 bats?

c. If Athletic Country currently produces 300 bats and 300 rackets, what is the
opportunity cost of an additional 100 bats?

d. Suppose Athletic Country is currently producing 200 bats and 200rackets. How
many additional bats could they produce without giving up any rackets? How many
additional rackets could they produce without giving up any bats?
e. Is the production of 200 bats and 200 rackets efficient? Explain.
