Span AD1 - PD1 & PD2 - AD2 = 7.500 m
(ii) Effective span : = 21.600 m
= 6.600 m
(iii) Overall width : = 18.000 m
(iv) Carriageway: = 14.550 m
(v) Pier-cap:
Top width = 2.000 m
Bottom width = 2.000 m

1.4 PERMISSIBLE STRESSES :

Permissible bending stress in reinforcement steel ( σst ) = 2400.0
Permissible flexural compressive stress in cocrete ( σcbc ) = 116.7
(As per Table 9 of IRC 21 - 2000)
Modular ratio
m = 10.0
k = 0.327
j = 0.891
R = 17.008
.
2.0 DESIGN OF PIER-CAP IN TRANSVERSE DIRECTION :
2.1 SPAN OF CANTILEVER PIER- CAP :
For computing span length of pier-cap equivalent rectangular pier of
same width is considered.
Equvalent length of pier:
L x 1 = 7.5
L = 8.285
Cantilever length of pier-cap:
= 1/2 x (15.75 - 8.285 ) = 3.733 m
3.0 DIRECT LOAD:
3.1 SUPER STRUCTURE :
From RCC Solid Slab span:
Total Load = 300.00 t
3.2 LIVE LOAD :
70 R wheeled vehicle gives maximum reaction at support hence same is
considered here.
Impact factor = 0.163
As per IRC: 6 Clause 208.7 for the design of pier cap Impact factor will be
50 %.
i.e. Impact factor = 0.163/2 = 0.082
Reaction including impact factor :
= 53.358 x 1.082 = 57.707 t
3.2 FOOTPATH LIVE LOAD :
Intensity = P - ( 40 x L - 300 ) / 9
= 500 - ( 40 x 21.6 - 300 ) / 9
= 437.333 kg/cm² say = 440 kg/cm²
Load = 22.5 x 1.5 x 0.44 / 2 = 7.425 t
TOTAL LIVE LOAD = 57.707 + 7.425 = 65.132 t say = 66.000 t
