“HIV/AIDS Awareness”

The lack of knowledge in today’s world is a major issue. It is causing the spread of
many dangerous health problems. One in particular is AIDS, which stands for Acquired
Immune Deficiency Syndrome. With higher knowledge of everything that goes hand and
hand with it, the spread can be put to a stop. HIV/AIDS Awareness is the most effective way
to end the worldwide spread of this killer disease.
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a fatal communicable disease
with no effective treatment or known cure. It is the final stage of infection caused by the
human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). When HIV enters the body, it weakens your immune
system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection.
Early symptoms of infection with HIV may include a rash, sore throat, fever, and
tiredness. Nearly everyone with HIV develops AIDS. People with AIDS cannot fight off
diseases that healthy people could easily resist. Because AIDS has no cure, people with AIDS
eventually die from one of these diseases.
It poses a serious threat to Filipinos especially to young people. According to the
Wikipedia: HIV/AIDS in the Philippines, the current incidence of HIV/AIDS in the country
remains under 0.1% of the total population in 2015. The Philippines has one of the lowest
rates of infection, yet has one of the fastest growing number of cases worldwide. The
Philippines is one of seven countries with growth in number of cases of over 25%, from 2001
to 2009. The first case of HIV infection in the Philippines was reported on January 1984.
We should be aware of this disease. Increased awareness of safe practices to
prevent HIV infection results in people being more careful and ultimately decreases
infection rates. HIV/AIDS Awareness programs help people become aware of the levels of
care and treatment, whether they are living with HIV or caring for someone with this
disease.
