Pre-Assessment and Findings:
Almost all of the children in preschool participate in eating snack and several
have shown interest in playing with the play foods in dramatic play area including Ella,
John Curtis, Kyler, Quincy, and Hayden. I think that through incorporating the importance
of eating healthy foods and by teaching them how to make a healthy snack the
children can have their interests met and goals reached as we also implement literacy
activities.
When at snack Hayden said that the snack he was eating was healthy because it
had yogurt and his mom said yogurt is healthy. Ella said that sugar is not healthy but is
okay to eat sometimes. When asked about healthy foods Alice said that bananas are
healthy and Zoey said carrots are healthy. Paxton said that his mom eats healthy and
does not always eat treats. Quincy said he can eat all his vegetables at home which
make him strong.
Based upon my pre-assessment I think it will be important to emphasize that fruits
and vegetables are healthy foods but that grains and other foods are good for our body
to eat too. It will also be beneficial to talk about other healthy snacks to eat besides
smoothies that we can make at home.
Ideas to be Emphasized and Overall Developmental Focus:
1. Eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables make our bodies strong.
2. A healthy snack made of fruit is a smoothie.
3. Today we will focus on developing literacy skills in various activities.
