Why interface is important?
• It ensures smooth, proper and timely execution of project.
• It finalizes inter-discipline scope of work and thus prevents duplication of work and gap of work. • It reduces physical clash of equipments/items. • It helps to determine the proper size and rating of equipments / structures (i.e. UPS sizing, Motor rating, Trench sizing, Pipe Rack sizing etc). • It finalizes inter-discipline scope of supply and thus prevents duplication of material and short fall of material. • Interaction helps to receive latest project data, information and changes.

• C&I provides signal list to Electrical group for inclusion in motor control and indication schedule. • All signal/cable interfaces are through Instrument/Electrical Interface cabinet (Interposing Relay panel). • Communication Link between MCC & DCS/SIS are via RS 485 Modbus link 5 INTERFACE FOR UNIDIRECTIONAL MOTORS
6 Motor Operated Valves
• Generally MOV belongs to Instrumentation item and it is requisitioned
by the C&I Group.
• 3 phase power supply to the actuator is provided by Electrical Group.
C&I group indicates the location of MOV at field and accordingly Electrical group estimates the power cable length and route. Cable size is determined based on Load List.
• In case of integral starter, Electrical provides only power cable from
MCC/SWGR to Field and C&I provides control cable from DCS/PLC/SIS to Field.
• In case of MCC starter, C&I provides control cable both from Field to DCS as well as from MCC to DCS. ( Refer attached control schematic diagram)
• Electrical group will prepare control schematic diagram of MOV and will pass to C&I group for review.
• C&I group will check the control facility from DCS and ensure the availability of all auxiliary contacts at MCC and their terminal numbers.

15 UPS requirements for Instrumentation
• Uninterrupted Power Supply is required for Field Instruments,
Process Analyzers, Gas Detection System, DCS/PLC system, Emergency Shutdown System, Visual Display Units, Emergency control room lighting etc.
• C&I group shall estimate the UPS load for entire
Instrumentation system and intimate Electrical group in terms of KVA rating.
• Electrical Group shall arrange and provide UPS supplies with
required number of outgoing feeders from UPS Distribution Board.
• Type of redundancy (i.e. Hot redundant or Parallel redundant)
and back-up time shall be as per project specification.
• Sizing of UPS is carried out by Electrical Group based on the
requirements received from Instrument Group.
16 Non UPS power requirements for Instrumentation
• Non UPS power may be considered for Panel Lighting,
Level Gauge Illumination, Analyzer Shelter, Cabinet Lighting, Power socket, Log Printers, Field Instrument Illumination etc.
• C&I group shall estimate the Non UPS load for entire Instrumentation system and intimate Electrical group in terms of KVA rating.
• Electrical Group shall arrange and provide Non UPS
supplies with required number of outgoing feeders from Separate Distribution Board.
• Scope of cabling from Distribution Board to respective
area is mutually decided during detailed engineering.
17 Cable routing • Generally Electrical and C&I follow the same route as far as possible during field cable routing.
• The size of cable trench and routing requirements is passed to Civil
Group for detailed design of cable trench and input to the PDS model.
• Where cable tray is routed over the pipe rack, Electrical group provides the tray size, number of tray etc to Piping group considering C&I trays. In this case, C&I provides their requirements to Electrical in advance.
• Instrument tray is requisitioned by C&I group. However, tray supports,
angles etc.are considered by Electrical. • Underground routing is finalized after discussion in between Electrical, C&I, Piping and Civil Groups. • The co-ordination between C&I and Electrical Groups for underground routing will be performed by Civil Group. • For above ground cable routes, C&I group will detail their main routes and for input to Raceway. Secondary cable routes will be detailed by the Installation Contractor.
18 Earthing
• Overall Earthing system is the responsibility of Electrical group.
At Field:
• Instruments group shall be responsible for bonding all Instrument safety
earths (e.g. cable racks/trays, junction boxes, frames, glands and instruments) to the Electrical safety earth system.
At CCR/ISB:
• In the ISB/CCR, Instrument Group shall be responsible for the provision and installation of the earth bars and the connection of all cabinets/equipments in accordance with Earthing Philosophy.
• Electrical group shall be responsible for connection of the Instrument Earth
bar to the earth electrode and the connection of the safety earth bar to the Electrical Safety earth system.
• Separate earth bars and earth electrode shall be provided for Intrinsically Safe Ground (ISG).
19 Electric tracing of Instruments • Identification of Instruments that require Electrical Tracing, location of all connections required to pre-traced bundles and the length of each bundle by C& I Group.
• All electric tracing of instruments by Electrical
Group (with the exception of the analyzer sample pre-traced tubing bundles).
