Answer all the questions.
1 a) Define the following terms as used in system theory (4 marks)

ii. Optimization
b) Differentiate between hard and soft system properties (4 marks)
c) Explain five importance of conducting feasibility study (5 marks)
d) Table 1 shows details of project A and project B
Given that the initial costs for the projects was Kshs. 50000 and Kshs. 150000
respectively. Determine the:
i. Most worthwhile project using the return on investment technique (4 marks)
ii. Payback period for each project (3 marks)

2 a) Dominic, a business man who owns a big carpentry industry decided to consult a
system analyst about development of a system.
i. Identify two methods you could use to collect data (2 marks)
ii. State two advantages of using the methods in (i) above (4 marks)
b) Dawa Pharm is a wholesale dispensing chemist. Its sales department receives
orders from customers. If a new customer, the details are entered in the customer master
file and given a customer number which is used in order processing. Customer orders are
verified to ascertain that all order information is accurate and record exists for the
customer who is placing order. When orders are received, the order file is updated. The
order information is used to produce an invoice for all customers and a copy sent to order
fulfillment department. Using the information provided draw a
i. context diagram (2 marks)
ii. Level 1 DFD (5 marks)
