Digital Communication: NEW SYLLABUS (2015-16)

The document outlines a new syllabus for a Digital Communication course covering the following topics: probability theory, source coding techniques, digital modulation techniques, spread spectrum techniques, synchronization methods, and baseband transmission. The course aims to help students understand digital communication system design issues, analyze performance using probability, explain source coding and modulation schemes, and analyze advantages of spread spectrum techniques. Upon completing the course, students should be able to analyze digital communication systems, explain source coding techniques, compute performance of modulation schemes, understand spread spectrum techniques, and explain optimum receivers and equalizers. The curriculum is lacking in software-based modulation design and hardware-based new modulation techniques. An action plan is proposed to introduce students to LabVIEW for software-based

Curriculum gap:

1.The curriculum does not include software based design of digital modulation technique such which is

essential for students to understand different modulation operations (Weak PO: PO5

2.The curriculum does not include hardware based design of new modulation techniques presently used in

industries cdma,frequency hopping.(PO3)

Action plan

1.Students will be introduced with software like Scilab & LABVIEW to implement concepts of modulation
and demodulation.(new experiments of modulation and demodulation will be taken on LABVIEW
in mid of September)
2 .Students will be introduced with practical kits of cdma and frequency hopping technique .
