Continuous Variable Transmision

Continuously variable transmission (CVT) allows for infinite gear ratios between maximum and minimum values using two adjustable conical pulleys connected by a V-belt. It works by varying the distance between the pulleys driven by an engine and wheels, thereby changing the velocity ratio of the belt drive. There are several types of CVTs including those using variable diameter pulleys, rollers, magnetism, and hydrostatics. CVTs are commonly found in applications like tractors, golf carts, lawn mowers, and motorized wheelchairs.

Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT)

Definition:
Continuously variable transmission (CVT) is a transmission which can change steplessly through an
infinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum values.

Working of CVT:
CVT consist of two adjustable conical pulleys driven by V-belt. One of the pulley is driven by
Engine and other is coupled with wheels. The distance between pulleys is inversely proportional with
velocity ratio of belt drive. Hence by adjusting the distance between pulleys we can obtain desired no. of
gear ratio without stepped gears

Types of CVT:
Variable-diameter pulley (VDP) or Reeves drive
Toroidal or roller-based (Extroid)
Magnetic
Infinitely variable transmission (IVT)
Ratcheting
Hydrostatic
Naudic incremental (iCVT)
Cone

Applications:
Tractors
Golf Carts
Ride on Lawn Mowers
Motorized Wheelchairs

Conclusion:
CVT is the most superior technology for power transmission and it would be the widely
acceptable technology throughout the world
