KLS GIT, Dept. of E&C Engg. Fields & Waves EC44 Assignment 2 (Open Book)

This document contains an assignment with multiple questions about electric fields and potentials. It includes: 1) Finding the area of a spherical strip section of a sphere with radius 3cm. 2) Finding the electric field in the z=0 plane due to a line charge extending from -L to L along the z-axis. 3) Determining the charge needed at (-2,0,0) to make the y-component of the electric field zero at (1,2,2) given a 1C charge at (2,0,0). 4) Finding the electric field expression for a hollow cylinder of surface charge. 5) Several questions analyzing two potential fields and applying uniqueness theorems.

Assignment 2 (Open Book)

1. The spherical strip shown in the figure is a

section of a sphere of radius 3 cm. Find the
area of the strip.
2. A line charge along the z axis extends over
the interval -LzL. Find the electric field in
the z=0 plane.
3. A point charge of 1C is at (2, 0, 0). What
charge must be placed at (-2, 0, 0) which will
make Y-component of total electric field intensity zero at the point (1, 2, 2).
4. Find electric field intensity expression everywhere due to hollow cylinder of surface charge.
5.

6. Consider the two potential fields V1=y and V2=y+exsiny, (a) Is 2 1 = 0? (b) Is 2 2 = 0? (c) Is
V1=0 at y=0? (d) Is V2=0 at y=0? (e) Is V1= at y=? (f) Is V2= at y=? (g) Are V1 and V2
identical? (h) Why does the Uniqueness Theorem not apply?
