The RS232-RS485 Converter is an external interface converter which connects a serial RS232 device
with RS485 devices. A simple and rapid conversion without driver is possible for many existing
devices.
RS232 - RS485 Interface Conversion
The RS485 2-wire bus consists of a bus cable with a maximum
length of 1200m (depending on transmission rate and cable type).
Devices will be attached to the cable over a maximum 5-meter-long
stub. The benefit of the 2-wire technology is essentially in the multi-
master capability. Basically each device can communicate and
exchange data with each other device. The 2-wire bus is only half-
duplex capable. Only a subscriber (device) can send data, because
only one transmission path is available. Received data from other
subscribers is not possible before data transmission completion.
RS232 is a standard for a serial interface and was introduced in the
1960s by a standardization committee. Due to the used voltage
transmission, the voltage at the receiver decreases with increasing
cable length, therefore the cable length is limited. At 19200 baud
with a standard cable, this corresponds to a maximum length of
10m.

For RS485 connection via 2-wire bus the use of terminating resistors may be required. To force the
resting phases of the idle signal on the bus may be required for RS485 connection via 2-wire bus using
termination resistors. The termination network is controlled by optional (integrated) resistors.
