ACCOMPLISHMENT/ACTUAL EXPERIENCE
Truly an experience is the best source of knowledge that an individual can acquire.
In that 2 day experienced in Obstetrics Ward with Maam Goyeta Pereyra, for me it was
a great achievement. Though Ive handled more patients, Ive managed it and I admit, it
wasnt that easy dealing up with the situations. For 2 years in Midwifery course, I only
knew how to do the vital signs taking, plotting in the TPR chart, doing remarks every after
the shift, and bathing the baby. But this time, I am now a 3rd year nursing student, we
started to do the focus charting and this is new to us in Obstetrics Ward since when were
in 1st and 2nd year level, we do not make sample charting because it is not a part of the
Midwifery student/profession to do that. It is the nurses responsibility of documenting in
the patients chart.
FEELING REACTIONS
We only had 2 days exposure in OB Ward under the supervision of our Clinical
Instructor, Maam Goyeta Pereyra. In the 1st day of duty with Mam Goy, we were assigned
to handle 3-4 patients each plus the newborn so the responsibilities were doubled. Ive
handled a twin case in our shift and it was my first time to handle a greater number of
patients in our 7-12 shift.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
The problems that I have encountered during my duty today are the following:
On the first day of our duty with Mam Goy last August 17, 2017, we left the hospital
past 12:30 because of the every detailed endorsement with the Nurse on Duty. I endorsed
my patient to the NOD at 12nn and finished after 5-10 minutes. I/We had some problems
in endorsing the patient to the NOD because she wants a complete details and she kept
on questioning each of us about the patient. And we didnt expect that she is like that
because most of our encountered nurse when were endorsing, we only tell the patients
name, if the medications are prepared, and other some problems, they signed in the
nurses notes without further asking us about our patient. But we know that it is for our
good sake. We hurriedly eat our lunch because we will have a 1pm class. 2 of our
classmates are left behind in the hospital because they are not still finish yet. Everyone
was exhausted after the 1st day of duty but all in all, it was a good day for us.
SUGGESTIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the
doing. Thats why is it better to take the risk than to do nothing, because it makes us to
interfere our fears and weve learned from our mistakes.
