INTERVIEW SESSION PARAMOUNT AVIATION RESOURCES GROUP

Qatar Airways Interview

The Qatar Airways Interview will last two days

Day 1

There will be a short introduction about the company that will be followed by a check of all
relevant papers (Licenses, Logbooks, etc.).

Day 1 - Psychological Test
There will be a short written psychological test.

Day 1 - Aviation Test
This is a multiple answer written test in Aviation Knowledge. There will be operational and basic
aviation knowledge questions in this test. Good Study Material for this test can be found by
reviewing:
a. The book Ace The Technical Pilot Interview written by Gary Bristow and currently
published by The McGraw Hill Company.
b. The Qatar Civil Aviation Regulations. Go to http://www.caa.gov.qa/english/Law-a-
new.html or CLICK HERE to access the regulations website.

Day 1 - Pilot Interview
Every pilot will then be interview by a board of 3 management pilots.

This interview will include general questions such as:
Questions will be asked about the pilots previous career till present.
Why does the pilot want to join Qatar Airways?
What is the pilots family situation?
The panel expects some questions from the candidate as well.

The interview will also include specific technical questions about the aircraft that you are
currently flying. The interview panel will know enough about the airplane that you currently fly
in order to ask you specific questions and so be forewarned!

You will be informed if you have passed the first day of the interview and if you will be invited to
Day 2 of the Interview.

Day 1 Typical Interview Questions

Please find below a compilation of questions asked during past Interviews. Please note that there
is no guarantee that these exact questions will be present during your interview. However, these
questions should serve as a guide for the kind of questions to expect.

Day 1 Aviation Knowledge Interview Questions

1. How does a Pressure Altimeter works?

2. Give definition of QNH, QFE?
Answer: Take the advertised elevation in feet and divide by 30 (or 27 if you prefer) and
that gives you a number to add to the QFE in hPa to give a pretty good approximation
of the QNH. Look out for different units of measurements - obvious but important!

QFE + hPa = QNH
Airport elevation / 30 = hPa to add

3. How does weather affect altimeter settings?
Answer: Temperature affects the indicated altitude. The effect is not as drastic as pressure
changes. Altimeters in small aircraft have no simple means to compensate for non-
standard temperature. The effect is similar to high and low pressure changes. When
going from low temperature to higher temperature, the aircraft will be higher than
the indicated altitude. When going from high temperature to low, the aircraft will be
lower than indicated on the altimeter. The pilot should keep this in mind if terrain
clearance is a factor in the flight.

MEMORY AID: From high to low (pressure or temperature) LOOK OUT BELOW.

4. Be able to answer altimeter instrument errors?

5. Static variation in pitot tube causes an error and is called?

6. How do you calculate True Altitude at an airport?

7. Airport QNH is 1008hPa, you land with 1013hPa set in altimeter, what altitude will
your altimeter indicate?
Answer: Airport ALT will be given for that question; take 27 or 30ft/hPa for calculation,
easy)

8. What is ISA temperature at FL100?

Answer: -5OC (Alt x -2 +15 = ISA temp)

9. During climb out when would you switch the altimeter setting to standard?
Answer: Transition Altitude

10. What happens to your Indicated Airspeed if the pitot tube is blocked at the start of a
descent?
Answer: It decreases

11. What happens to your Indicated Airspeed if the static vent is blocked at the start of a

warmer area?
Answer: TAS Increases, IAS constant

16. What happens to Mach Number or IAS when climbing through an isothermal layer at
constant true airspeed?
Answer: Mach Number remains Constant, IAS decreases

17. What happens to Local Speed of Sound (LSS) or TAS if one increases or the other
