Art 1 & 2
Altered Book Assignments
Will Ashford
What is an altered book?
An altered book is a repurposed (used or second-hand) book, utilized for exploring
ideas through artmaking. The original book will be a working platform for something
uniquely yours. Similar to a sketchbook, this book will be full of art, however, it is a
chance to utilize unconventional or nontraditional materials, be expressive and
environmentally and economically responsible. Students will understand that art goes
beyond a white canvas and paint, and can be accomplished while meeting your
personal needs. Students will also be reflective and incorporate writing to understand
where artists get their ideas from and how they arrive at their final product.
