ST.

COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH

SAN DIEGO

October 23, 2016

Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners:
As I begin my ministry here at Saint Columba I wanted
to introduce myself. I was born in Wilmington,
Delaware, the fourth of six children. My family moved
to San Diego when I was about six years old. We were
parishioners of Our Lady of Grace parish in El Cajon
where I also attended elementary school. Following
elementary school I attended Saint Augustine High
School.
Upon graduation from high school I was accepted into
Saint Francis Seminary at the University of San Diego.
I completed my B.A. at USD and continued my
formation for the priesthood at the North American
College in Rome while completing my graduate degree
in theology at the Gregorian University.
I was ordained for the Diocese of San Diego in June of
1993. Since ordination I have had assignments in both
parish ministry and diocesan administration. I began
my priesthood as an associate pastor at Saint Michaels
parish in Paradise Hills. I then went on to serve at St.
Rose of Lima, Chula Vista, St. Martin of Tours, La
Mesa then as the Rector of the Immaculata, USD,
Pastor of Queen of Angels in Alpine, St. Charles
Borromeo, Loma Portal and most recently at Saint
Agnes in Point Loma. In addition to my parish
ministry I have also served in diocesan administration
as the assistant to Bishop Brom and as the Vice-Rector
of St. Francis Seminary. In 2002 I completed a degree
in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America
and I currently serve as the Adjutant Judicial Vicar for
the Diocese of San Diego.
For over 60 years Saint Columba has served as a
powerful witness to the Catholic faith in the
community of Serra Mesa and beyond. We have
embraced our mission to spread and live the word of
God by following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and
by handing on the Catholic faith through our school
and religious education programs.
Transitions and change can be challenging for all of us,
however, I am grateful for the opportunity to become
part of the community of Saint Columba and I am
looking forward to getting to know and work with all of
you.
Let us make the prayer of Saint Columba our own
when he wrote: O Lord, grant us that love which can
never die, which will enkindle our lamps but not
extinguish them, so that they may shine in us and
bring light to others. Amen.
Fr. Ed McNulty
Pastor

World Mission Sunday

Today is World Mission Sunday! In announcing his
decision to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope
Francis said, Dear brothers and sister, I have often
thought about how the Church might make clear its
mission of being a witness to mercy. Supporting the
young churches throughout the world with your
prayers and generous gifts is a merciful witness of
this mission. The collection today will help
missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical
help as they share the mercy of God.
It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and
support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders
who serve those on the margins and in most need.
Extend your merciful witness to the whole world
through your gift in todays collection for the Society
for the Propagation of the Faith!
