Flow Chart and Script MUN

1. During a MUN meeting, the chair will open the meeting by taking roll call of countries. They will then set the agenda and open the speaker's list. Countries can make motions like setting a time limit for speeches. 2. The speaker's list begins and countries give speeches on the agenda topic. Motions can be made between speeches like moving to informal debate or suspending the meeting. A country may also introduce a resolution or amendment. 3. After debate, the chair will close the speaker's list and debate. Countries then vote on any resolutions or amendments before the meeting is closed and a new agenda item is discussed or the meeting is adjourned.

Open the meeting

Roll Call

- Madame Chair/Mr. Chairman calls countries

Set Agenda (= topic)

- Madame Chair/Mr. Chairman announces the agenda


- countries who want to make a speech hold up placards

Open Speaker`s List

MOTION: set a time limit for speeches


- all countries vote yes (I agree), no (I disagree) or
abstention (I won`t vote)
- over 50% = go to formal debate
- less than 50% = make a new motion, vote again

Speaker`s

- countries come to the front to give speeches

MOTION: Informal Debate (= discussion about the agenda)


- vote
- yes = go to informal debate for set time-limit
- no = go back to formal debate (speaker`s list)

Formal Debate (=

MOTION: Suspension (= stop for caucusing, lunch etc.)

- yes = suspend the meeting

MOTION: Introduce Resolution (= idea about how to

- 1 country introduces the regional bloc`s resolution
- (countries vote after debate closes)
MOTION: Introduce Amendment (change part of the
resolution)
- 1 country introduces amendment
- (countries vote after debate closes)
