DESIGN BASIS REPORT FOR DESIGN OF COLD STORAGE OF 14000 MT FOR
BEGPUR S.K.U.S.LTD. Introduction HRBC has proposed to construct the Cold storage for the 14000MT capacity at Begpur dist Burdwan. Two units of 7000 MT are proposed with plan dimension of 40mx 33m. Each unit is consist of five storey of 3.5m height. Each storey is divided again of 1.75m for storage. Storage bay plan area is 1.85mx1.85m. Passage of 1.25m wide is proposed. Structure RCC frame structure. Outer periphery of cold storage is constructed with the brick wall. Inner room of cold storage is made up of only beam and column. Foundation type is raft with inverted beam is proposed to transfer the load to soil. Depth of foundation is 1.2 m below the E.G.L. Road top is 1.0 m above the ground level. Plinth level is 0.6m above road top level. The 900 mm air gap is kept below the plinth level. Excavation shall be done up to the 4 meter below the ground level. 2.8 m sand filling shall be done for improvement of s.b.c. Above the raft sand shall be filled upto the airgap. Above the sand 75 mm thick PCC 75mm thick SBF and 125 mm thick insulator shall be provided. Materials Concrete M-20 Mpa for Foundation raft, Beam, column and slab. Modulus of Elasticity of concrete=5000xfck^0.5 Mpa. Reinforcement Fe=415 Modulus of Elasticity of Reinforcement =200000 Mpa. Founding strata SBC of soil as Assumed 8.5T/sq.m. Modulus of sub grade reaction as per Foundation analysis and design by Joseph E. Bowles =40xSBCx2.5 kN/sq.m. this modulus of subgrade reaction is used as soil springs below the raft. Analysis of structure Analysis of structures shall be carried out with the help of commercially available software-STAAD Pro. Three dimensional model with frame element shall be modeled in the STAAD software. Plate element is used for modeling of raft foundation. Also beam inverted beam is modeled in the structures for raft foundation. Soil springs are used to give support reaction for the raft as boundary condition. Self weight is directly considered in model for structure weight Slab load is applied at the top of cold storage Wall load along the periphery is considered as 0.25x3.5x20=17.5 kN/m Live load of 9 kN/sqm is considered on the storage area. Wind load is directly applied in STAAD model as wind load for both horizontal direction. Seismic load shall be considered in staad model. Temperature difference of 20 degree shall be considered in STAAD model. Water pressure below the raft is applied on the plate element in structures. Load combination directly considered in staad model. Design of Structure. Limit state method of design is used for the design of element of structure. Forces of beam and column is directly taken from the STAAD analysis.
