Acts 9 Commentary - Paul's Conversion - BibleGateway

1. Saul was a fierce persecutor of Christians until encountering Jesus on the road to Damascus, where he was blinded by a bright light and heard Jesus say "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting." 2. Saul's companions saw the light but did not understand the words spoken. Saul was led blind into Damascus, where for three days he fasted as he grappled with the realization that his persecution of Christians had actually been persecution against God. 3. Saul's blindness served as an "acted parable" to show him the spiritual bankruptcy of his pre-Christian life, and his encounter with the risen Jesus turned him from enemy to servant of God, setting the stage for his pivotal role
